Never said it was an original idea. Said I thought it was the best course of action.
Based on who said it, that was a given :D

What would be REALLY good is for Docs to be a LEGITIMATE hangout in the mode of The Varsity (in the ATL). A new location would also be in order... How about where the Extended Stay is located.

Interesting to say the least. I think bringing the busses back is some CYA and IMO never should have been stopped. If you are putting University housing there you need to provide transportation, regardless of how busy it is.
As for the crosswalk, what about something similar to what's over Wards Rd? I know it would cause traffic nightmares putting up, but it doesn't take that long. And the city SHOULD fence the area between roads immediately.
This was inevitable. I predicted that it was only a matter of time before a student got hit trying to cross Odd Fellows. It's a VERY dangerous spot, with the blind off-ramp, traffic from Albert Lankford, traffic trying to cross from the Annex, center turn lane, and another road just a few yards away adding even more traffic to an already busy Odd Fellows. Add that to the fact that the whole area is an industrial park, so you have a ton of truck traffic. When Genworth employees are coming and going during rush hour, it's a mess. I don't understand why there are always students trying to cross there if the buses go to each site.

I don't see how a crosswalk is possible. There's only one stop sign (Albert Lankford traffic), and it's way too close to the off-ramp to add a stoplight in my opinion.

Some construction news out of the Faculty Meeting today:

Residential Commons II will ultimately have 1,000 beds. 368 of those beds will be ready for Fall 2015.

The new academic building immediately adjacent to the bookstore will be the new home of the School of Religion and Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. The complex will ultimately include the bookstore building as well. This supersedes the earlier information that the School of Religion would occupy the new academic building in front of DeMoss Hall. It was not clear from the information presented how much of the so-called "President's Quad" area will serve this purpose; whether it will be one building or multiple.

Rather than being located in the Center for Medical and Health Sciences as originally planned, the College of Osteopathic Medicine's public clinic will be located in a new property LU is occupying off campus near Kmart. They hope to open it in February 2015.

Sadly, it seems most faculty have not seen the Liberty Journal yet, so when President Falwell asked if there were any questions about the new Master Plan, nobody asked any.

Actually, the question they asked was 'Which one?"

JFJR specifically mentioned the presence of a new Master Plan in the latest Liberty Journal prior to offering to take questions. Nice try.

How do they know it hadn't been changed since then?

Or they've been around long enough to know it will change.

Well, what would be the point of JFJR offering to take questions on a plan that isn't valid anymore? They take faculty opinions into account when they do this stuff. I believe it was faculty proposals during a similar meeting several years back that culminated in the decision to build a freestanding library.

Regardless, that's not the point I was trying to make.

Yeah, I forgot the universal rule "Don't feed the trolls." My bad.

Anyhow…

Between the Science Hall, the Center for Music and the Worship Arts, and now Residential Commons II, it seems that LU is shifting to multi-phase construction (buildings are opened in two or more sections over time, rather than "all or nothing" on day one). Perhaps that has to do with the quality issues LU has faced in the last few buildings due to rushing the construction timelines…

That's great to hear. I went about a year ago and took a VP from another school and to be honest it was embarrassing...in my defense it was his idea to go there and there wasnt too much I could do because he loved diners. You could not request any changes to your order...hold a tomato from a burger or anything. I apologized and told him it was quite different from the time I was last there.

I'm glad to hear there's new management and from somewhere like Applebee's. After all the LU executive in charge of them now is from Applebee's as well and it's night and day different across campus. I went to the Reber Thomas last week with some visitors to the university and it was amazing...seriously amazing. I'll be visiting Doc's again soon to give that another try.
And I worked for him at Applebees as an Asst. GM. Louis is a great guy.

I ate with some friends at the Rot when I came to town for homecoming and it was the best experience I ever had...the food was of a quality I had not seen in many meals during my time on the mountain.

Did you just call me a troll? Child please, I'm the furtherest thing from a troll on this board. I was defending your condescending remark about the Faculty not being up to the minute on what the New New Master Plan is. Do you know how many of them there have been in just the last 10 years? That alone calls for skepticism.

BJ - you are loving these personal attacks, aren't you? Just remember what goes around comes around.

Now back to you regularly scheduled :koolaid fest

So who is the "she" from Applebee's? Is Cambeletta at LU now?

Flamesfanva wrote:So the students who are asked to stay for 4QF will be stuck with one concession stand and one restroom per until LU goes FBS? Not exactly a great way to reward the students who you want to show up and stay around. That side of the stadium sure looks no better than a high school stadium or worse depending on the high school. Of course the view from that side is better and gives you a more college game type atmosphere.
19200 seats and 20,838 at homecoming? We have a Luxury Suite waiting list? Could use some more seats for graduation ceremonies?

Saw they plan to expand the hockey arena, creating 4000 seats. Image

Yes. Yes you are :I chortle audibly.:
It addresses who we are now. Not who we used to be. That's very rare here. We are getting to a time where students were not even born when the Vines Center was packed out regularly. Add to that we are now a football school whereas when we packed it out e were a basketball school
Finally, I would cross my fingers and hope, that they looked at attendance over the last 10-15 years, and came up with the 4500 number. That would be logical and make sense.....which is why I'm skeptical :D
I've wondered about this for some time now, as well. Shortsighted in my opinion, and if a team starts well and continues that trend, I would say it was too small, even too small for a season opener for a team that struggled last year.
Cider Jim wrote:Not many at the girls' game, but the Vines was PACKED for the guys' game. Official attendance was 4352, but it looked like even more.
