I obviously don't know the details but there are probably certain things that must be present in order to remove him legally. That probably has more to do with it.

It also isn't an easy move to make emotionally. It is easy for me to sit back and say get rid of him but a lot of these people have long standing relationships with the family. I know that shouldn't matter but that also has to play a role.

If by that October meeting they do not decide to move on from Jr, I'd dare say he will be back. Just my gut feelings on that.

Regardless, we need to pray for the school we all love so much. (End of Jesus juke)

Very interesting release. It appears he’s out until at least Halloween. My sense is that if this was going to be a rubber stamp return it would have happened or been laid out in this. My sense is they’ve had a lot of people come forward who have felt the could not before. I’m sensing the BoT has learned and is learning a whole lot more about what’s been going on behind the scenes and they and both shocked and unsure what to do about it

I think a lot more dirty laundry is coming out behind closed doors that we don't know about like PH said. Plus I think there is a lot of disagreement between the members. Jerry loyalists and the ones that deeply care about Liberty's spiritual well being.

In the end I have to think they let him go. They lost support from alumni, pastors all the way to the house GOP. I don't think they want to embarrass themselves more as is.

Agreed. Like I told someone offline, had they laid out a path to reinstatement I would thing he's definitely coming back.

They have to let Jerry go. If he wants to stay associated with Liberty in a financial advisory position, that is OK. But Falwell has embarrassed the reputation of Liberty and engaged in conduct and judgment way below the standard for a Christian University President. He is always political and never spiritual. I appreciate what he has done financially for Liberty but he can no longer be the lead guy. Liberty has to move on but the new President has to be theologically sound and more spiritual than political, for sure.

Taking into account the fact that LU will always have a bullseye on their back with the legacy media, I still believe a college President is not supposed to make it in many cases, more challenging and harder for their schools’ graduates to get jobs in the workplace.

From an anonymous source—
Was Jerry Jr on a 1 year non tenure contract like the Professors that sweat it out every year to see if their contract will be renewed?

Curious, what legal grounds would be needed? First, VA is an at will state, regardless of employee level. Second, the BoT of any non profit has the power to remove the head of the institution, right? I could be wrong but that was always my impression.

As with any high level employee, they tend to have stuff written making it harder to be removed. I don't know if that is the case here but it sure seems that they are at least trying to give the appearance of due process. Or I am just over analyzing it.

VA is an At Will State but that doesn’t mean Junior is an At Will Employee. I’m guessing he’s a contract employee like a coach etc. but with more stringent guidelines. I would also imagine that any contract the BoT and he agreed to would have terms very favorable to him as opposed to LU. He’s obviously not on a 1 year renewable like his Educators are on every year.

Most executives at Jr's level, have employment contracts that spell out under what conditions they may be removed. They also include, buyout clauses, term of employment, do not compete clauses. for cause/no cause directives, stock option disbursement (which doesn't apply here obviously), etc.
I suspect the board may be weighing some of those things, before finalizing a course of direction. He may even get an opportunity for a face-saving option to help himself and the BOT with the decisions they are going to have to make. I don't think they can drag this on very long. If Prevo is going to be the guy for a little while, he doesn't need the former incumbent being perceived as looking over his shoulder.
To me, the fact that they have put Prevo on the payroll, doesn't bode well for Jr.
Regardless of direction, I will always pray of full physical and spiritual restoration for Jr. and family.

I’m posting this because of the comments. Anyone know what this John Ervin fellow is talking about? It’s news to me

An offshore company out of the Bahamas owns LU? Is that what he is saying? That would be pretty huge news but I have never once heard it. Sounds like a bizarre conspiracy theory to me. There is no way the local media would've sat this long and not reported huge news like that.
