I feel odd needing to state this, but Just John has been a consistent poster on this board for years and years. He posts sporadically but has been attempting to hold the school accountable for a very long time. Opinions may change over time, but Just John has typically been as consistent as any poster on the board.

While I may not always completely agree with Proto's posts in this thread, he has also been consistent in his postions. His credentials from the early days of FlameFans are clear (ditto for TallyW). He also has been transparent about his relationship with the school over the years.

Let's not let the opinions expressed by posters become the story when the main topic is so significant for the university. I recognize that is a hazard of the message board experience. But what I love about this place is we can have vastly different takes and still love each other in the end.

In the 2020-2021 school year if Liberty:

Goes to a bowl game in football, makes the NCAA Tournament in basketball, softball and baseball, much of this thread will blow over.

All of those things would be great accomplishments for the university! Sadly, similar accomplishments in the past have been overshadowed by Jerry and his antics so I don't see how this would change in the future.

I don't see any of those things as being a factor at all in this. Will a lot of us be very happy if those things happen? Of course. It has nothing to do with Jerry.

There are definitely some here who think that sports are more important than the values held by leadership. I find the willingness of many Liberty folks to compromise "strong convictions" for sports or money interesting. It has been the norm for years. There are still plenty that celebrate successes such as a great basketball season but maintain a hard line on holding leadership accountable for destructive behaviors and this, too, has been consistent for years.
This will not blow over, BC.

Lots of times it’s people who haven’t accomplished anything in the Athletics field that tend to do that the most.

Liberty University Poured Millions Into Sports. Now Its Black Athletes Are Leaving.
Jerry Falwell Jr.’s dream of athletic domination is in peril.

I could go on and on with articles that come out attacking Liberty, namely Jerry, whenever we achieve anything athletically. Until he is permanently removed, this will always happen. Sure there are those that will always dislike us for our religious views, but the main focus and target is always Jerry.

No it won't. They will always find a reason to post hate about Liberty, because we are a Christian school that has been successful. Black athletes leaving... Give me a break. We had like 5, and 3 of those left because they could play on this level anyways. Let's stop making stories up or grabbing random internet articles - we all know there out there, but just because someone writes it on paper - doesn't make it true.

Thanks for the post Sly. I have no ill will to anyone on this board. Though I don't hang out with anyone, I would consider most of you my friends and be glad to catch a game, in person, with anyone. I understand where everyone is coming from, and believe me see issues at LU, BUT I saw bigger issues back in 1999 when I started working for them and dealt with every level there. The school has never been perfect and will never be. Everyone needs a villain - it used to be Godwin, then it was Smith and now it's Jerry, Jr. I have beaten a dead horse here and will stop now. This is an athletics forum and I'm just looking forward to discussing sports again - hopefully not why we need to fire another coach either;)

You are absolutely correct and I said the same thing in my post, we will always carry the stigma all religious institutions do in our modern society, it is what it is. What we can control however is having a leader who carries himself as a bully throughout social media and antagonizes the press on a near daily basis. No one can ever take away all the great things that have happened at LU under his watch, but all these things have been overshadowed by his poor attitude and leadership.

Excellent Post.

I read recently that some school had 7 athletes off one team transfer. Those 7 did not get as much "print" as Liberty's 2 or 3.

I'm kidding of course. If we all thought the same this place would be extremely boring.

That 7 is not even a high number. UConn had 20 football players in the portal this year.

One of the basic things a University President is not supposed to do is make it harder for the graduating students of his school to get a job.

Also to what or who do we attribute that the number of admission applications, according to the Annual Report, have dropped approx 60% since 2015. I don’t think that’s all because of the instituted app fee. LU should be getting more attractive not less.

Interesting. The line "The decision whether or not to retain Falwell as president has not been made" surprises me. My personal opinion is that he should be separated from LU, but at the least not be reinstated as president. But I couldn't help but think this was a dog and pony show and that the BoT wasn't going to actually do anything. That may still be the case but at least I kind of feel like they're actually working through this mess instead of passing time.
