I said this offline, but personally I don't mind that Jonathan didn't address it head on. He has been put in a terrible position and regardless of the relationship between he and Jr, it can't be an easy nor comfortable thing to discuss especially as soon as it happens. While I understand as a BoT member he has to be able to view this professionally and not personally, it's only human for him to see the personal side as well. Not to mention, any comment he makes will he taken as a comment of the board which he may or may not be authorized to make. At some point he's going to need to face the music but I don't mind that day not being today.

Based on what we are hearing that revelations are about to get much, much worse, I would think Provo would want to create as much distance as possible . However, Jerry may have a surviving non-disparagement clause in his contract that will constrain the board from offering opinions or statements. I would think that indisputable facts that may be uncovered during investigations are not protected from contractual constraints and can be released with the advice of council.

I suspect that both parts were recorded prior to the onslaught of the past 36 hours. As a crisis coms guy, it is frustrating to watch all of the mistakes that have been/are being made by the university right now. It seems they are borrowing an old line from one of my clients in the wake of an oil spill: "There's not a lot that you can say to make things better. But there's a lot that you can say that will make things worse."

And for the record since I suspect some are likely wondering, I only briefly consulted with the school about a decade ago in response to some specific incidents that had nothing to do with JLFJR's personal issues.

Reflecting a bit on what Jonathan preached on, I think there were a lot of subtle things that really speak to the dangers of falling to temptation and how it is important to follow God even if we aren't in Christian ministry. Those points are true of this whole situation and it is true for current and past students.

The statements beforehand from Prevo just put a sour taste in my mouth. We all know Jerry worked hard to grow the University but there is really no reason to talk about that right now. It does more harm than good. Just my 2 cents.

Sometimes I allow my emotions to get the best of me...sorry about that guys.

Actually it would seem my expectations for people who claim to be Christians somehow continues to be higher as I get older. I wish it wasn't that way, it would be much easier to just shrug things off.

Christian university
Huge online program
Strong athletic program and emphasis on growth
Rapid on campus growth

Rapid on campus growth

I’ve been on campus. The buildings, especially the dorms are AMAZING. Why they weren’t used as a template at LU I have no idea.
But I literally had no idea it was a Christian University until my 2nd or 3rd trip there. And my friend was a Dean. And former LU student. They are most certainly not a Christ Centered University regardless of what their marketing material might say
