Purple Haize wrote: August 15th, 2020, 4:06 pm @LUAlum1215 the business of education? I’m not too sure of that. The business of real estate, contract law etc? Absolutely. There’s a lot more to running a University than putting up buildings etc. Which he’s done a good job. The biggest feather in his cap is keeping the place afloat, his dad out of trouble and having a sizeable “endowment”. That has a lot to do with Business but not a lot to do with Education. He grew up and got his knowledge and experience in the realm of Law and Business. Not in Education. Maybe the closest parallel I can draw is the difference between Sales and Service. You don’t necessarily want your best salesman running your service department or vice versa
That's valid. I guess I don't fully understand the intricacies of running a university from the education standpoint. I keep going back to being a good leader and managing the things you're good at while delegating things you're not as strong at to those who are. That goes across any industry, so I don't see why it can't work in education.
You’re not wrong. But he’s been on record expressing his disdain for the Education system and those who provide it. Just like I’m sure there’s more to running a repair shop than the average person knows the same goes for a University. Each Profession has its own disciplines that you need to understand and respect. That’s comes first before delegation

Now, some of the images Falwell has “liked” on Instagram are raising eyebrows.

Religion News Service has verified that Falwell has liked a handful of images posted on the social media platform that show young women in swimsuits in the past month.

One is a photo of model Stefanie Gurzanski, who has appeared on the covers of Cosmopolitan Mexico and Maxim Mexico, posed across the back of a couch in a black one-piece suit and leopard-print high-heeled boots.

Another is an ambassador for conservative student movement Turning Point USA who pairs photos of herself in swimsuits with political memes and patriotic or inspirational Christian captions.

While young women posting swimsuit selfies is an innocent Instagram activity, liking them is “certainly unbecoming for the president of, as he calls it, the largest Christian college in the United States,” Fea said.

For the record, Becki also liked some of Stefanie Gurzanski's pictures.... Gurzanski follows both Jerry and Becki on instagram (as of 8/5). I'm not sure if she still does.

I don't know much about instragram, but everything I have heard coming from it was bad.

Internet is good if used properly. Same for Facebook and twitter.

thepostman wrote: August 15th, 2020, 1:03 pm What does any of this have to do with Jerry Jr?

Are we talking about Jerry's theology? If so there is so much we could dive into there.
Since he’s not a Pastor, nor claims to be one does his theology even matter? Does he even have the credentials to be thought of as an Evangelical leader? He’s claimed he doesn’t. Most University Presidents have a PhD or EdD, sure he has a JD but does that qualify him to run an academic organization?

Just got back from a long walk with the family. I do take breaks from social media from time to time for my own sanity.

I do need to get a bike. Been saying it for years.

Maybe Jerry could've avoided this if he just rode a bike!!

I saw @Jonathan Carone share this earlier today and really appreciate the perspective he gives. It is easy to get caught up in emotion but at the end of the day I think we all just want is best for the school and Jerry.

An open letter to Jerry Falwell on the future of Liberty University

Give it a listen or a read. Really sincere stuff.

The closing was a good reminder for me:

I’ve prayed for you more over the last week than in the 12 years I’ve known you and I promise I’ll continue doing so. I trust Jesus is working in you, and I can’t wait to see who you’ll be when he’s done. My hope is we’ll be able to use this set back as a launching point for the greatest days Liberty will ever have.

Here upon this mountain; ever our song shall be:

Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty.

I figured someone would bring up Mitch. If you read my post I did recognize that Junior had a JD which could be a Doctorate and so does Mitch. The difference is Mitch was Gov of the State of IN and oversaw the Higher Education system as part of his role. He was also active in a lot of Educational reform initiatives. He’d held several of other positions prior that which would be very beneficial experience to running Purdue. The biggest asset he would bring would be his connections to the halls of legislatures in Indianapolis and access to big time donors. Finally he’d have the connections needed to put the proper people in the proper places. Junior is no Mitch
As for the CS article, LU isn’t Taylor or Evangel or The Master’s so I’m not. Sure how that applies.

Thanks for posting that! It really means a lot to me. I didn’t want to self promote it over here.

I wrote it last week while on vacation. With the capacity to really process what had happened - and after realizing the board was unlikely to do anything permanent - I wanted to put down what I would want out of Jerry 2.0.

I know many on here will likely disagree with the conservative theology vs conservative politics angle, but I really think for our school to be the best it can be, that’s going to have to be a clear distinction. I’ve met Christians all across the world who agree with most of our theology but wouldn’t consider us because of our politics. Getting to know those people and their application of the same theology I hold to has made me a much more complete Christian.

At the end of the day, I want to see Jerry be the version of himself he was created to be and I want to see Liberty be the best all around Christian school in the world. I hope I conveyed that in the letter.

It's always better to pray for people than judge them. Aca Chapman's walk, Danny Rocco trying to give a couple of players a second chance, saying Turner Gill's "to God be the glory" after a tough loss sounds like nothing but a tagline to you. And as far as Jr goes, not forgiving hurts you more than anyone else.

I'm ready to move on. And like thepostman said to me in a private message "Much love".

I don't get you. Jon clearly loves the school and poured his heart out into something and you kind of crap on it and bring up things that have absolutely nothing to do with this current topic.

So you have some kind or personal grudge with Jon. I have no idea why but you have made it clear what your feelings are but I think what he shared resonates with a lot of peoole.

Jerry will probably be back and when he is, I hope we get a more focused, improved version of Jerry. I want that for the school I love and I want it for him. Seems like something we can all agree on but instead you bring up past disagreements you have have with Jon instead of the issue we are discussing.

Very odd behavior.

Nothing odd, after 10 year, of someone getting tired of reading Super Jon's spin.
No, it is odd behavior. Instead of joining together and praying for Jerry, you'd rather dwell on the past and things that have absolutely nothing to do with this. You somehow made something unifying into something about your personal grudge. So yes, it is very odd.

Any mention of when a formal announcement will be? Seems odd to slap the indefinite label on it and keep his bio up on the website if this was indeed a permanent move.

So stop reading his posts. Pretty simple. Or, if you disagree with his opinion, state your counter point and move on. I don't have a dog in this fight but you make it hard to agree with your posts when your "vendetta"against SJ seems to be your main point so often.
