It's not only wood plank but a heavily reinforced concrete wall. They needed that to anchor the cabling set up to pull the tunnel through. A pretty amazing process from an engineering standpoint.

Was looking at the book on Liberty's Campus Improvement page that has updated pictures on the new construction and an updated master plan on page 30: http://issuu.com/libertyuniversity/docs ... 75/5894313 Also looks like the master plan has been updated here: http://www.liberty.edu/aboutliberty/index.cfm?PID=27631

Several things I noticed:
- The aquatic center, gymnastic, wrestling, etc. facility where they have been leveling off under the monogram isn't there anymore but a gymnastic and volleyball center is now shown across University Blvd. from the Ice Center.
- Roads have been rerouted a little around the new tunnel and a new road behind Towns.
- The future Civic Center is not shown at the mall
- A new "Administration Tower" is shown where part of the Hill dorms are
- Added an area for "Future Medical Campus Expansion"

Any thoughts on these changes?

Jonathan announced in Church today (radio) that discussions with city are progressing, that would see the civic center built and a new larger, more easily accessible Thomas Road Baptist Church built near by.

The property that has been proposed as the future site of TRBC numerous times over the past two decades remains available despite plenty of other proposals to use the land over the years including the ill-fated outdoor mall. Perhaps that is the location being discussed.

As for the current site, it is ready made for expansion of LU.

I'm hearing some incredible rumors about the next wave expansion projects. I won't steal JLFJR's thunder but I hope the rumors are not just a tall tale.

Isn't the only way TRBC got out of debt from building the new church from some of Doc's life insurance? Either that or Liberty helped get them out of debt. I don't remember the whole story, but why in the world would they build a new church building already? Very odd.

ahhh Sly knows what is going on, but won't tell us. Typical!

That wouldn't be a bad idea at all, but I just wonder how building another new building for TRBC will effect the church. I know these people running both Liberty and TRBC are much smarter then me so I will trust them, but man it seems risky

This move would be risky financially but I don't see it hurting the culture of the church at all. It was much riskier moving from the original location up into an old GE factory. And that has proven to be a success in spite of the parking challenges.
