Birchbark and Veritas55 make a good pair, don't you think?

Ron Godwin. Provost. SVP of Academic Affairs. He is the senior-most official when it comes to academics for LU. There's no way he didn't know about these programs. And if he didn't, that's a huge problem. And the fact that he reports directly to JFjr might be another problem. But just the fact that he thought it would be okay to appear on that program shows a tremendous ignorance and lack of judgement by Godwin. Why do that?

Also, about the credits transferring. As an accredited institution, LU has standards they must abide by when it comes to accepting credits transferring. They have always been allowed to accept these Bible institute credits to transfer in as religion credits, so that's not really an issue. It's just like them accepting military experience/courses, Word of Life coursework, etc.

That is a bigger problem for LU's academic reputation than the Benny Hinn mess.

I've never heard of this guy, but...

Alumni on Liberty University and Benny Hinn: #GodwinsGottaGo
In light of the recent video announcement from Benny Hinn Ministries in which Dr. Ronald Godwin, Senior Vice President and Provost of Liberty University, participated:

Myself, and a growing crowd of alumni of Liberty University, are calling for the resignation of Dr. Godwin, effective immediately.

Our primary reasons are as follows:
Does he post on here?

Ha. I was just about to post that.
Point 1 is so obvious I never thought about it. But it is a solid argument
Point 4 and 5 are also very damning although to be fair I wouldn't put it past Benny Hinn to embellish the truth (cue Steve Taylor)
Point 6 is spot on the money. If Godwin really wanted to accomplish what he says he does, why Benny Hinn and not someone else? Unless there was a pre existing relationship with Hinn.

I thought the use of self righteous and pious was appropriate.
Also, claiming that questioning these claims and associations could cause bad things to happen and threaten fulfillment of the stated goal is VERY Benny Hinn/Televangelist like. The only thing missing was the immediate call for money

Great post by him, for sure.
What in particular (besides the most current situation) do Philosophy grads not like about the direction of the university under Godwin?

I saw this a few days ago and for whatever reason it doesn't bother me nearly as much as devaluing my degree. Which is what the whole Benny Hinn thing is doing. Especially since the provost of our University was essentially endorsing by being there.

I have mixed feelings on this hire, but I am sure others feel more strongly about it. If he can provide a good education for our students, then ultimately that is a good thing.

The hits just keep coming...
personal life is not a factor when hiring someone at LU?
Apples and Oranges...

It doesn't seem that this temporary hire conflicts with the mission of Alluvion. Overall, the mission of the theatre company from their website is as follows:

http://www.alluvionstage.com/index.cfm?PID=25033
Alluvion's Mission

Alluvion Stage Company is a not-for-profit professional theater company whose purpose is to enrich, educate and entertain our community by providing a superior theatre experience in a wholesome family environment.

Objectives

To sponsor large family-oriented productions which will be musicals predominantly.
To be recognized as a significant cultural asset by the local community.
To develop and draw from local talent (including current students, alumni, and guests artists) to the maximum extent possible.
To launch and expedite the professional careers of Liberty University’s talented performance and production students.
To enhance development of youth in the theatre arts through cooperative ventures with local schools via workshops.
To sustain and increase recognition nationally and to recruit talented high school students into the academic program.
To uphold and execute the mission of Liberty University through theatrical arts.
In something like this, the whole is often greater than the sum of its parts. At the end of the day, you really just see if they will be contributing toward your mission. If he ends up being used to help Christ-followers learn more about musical theatre and choreography, then great. My experience in producing, directing, acting in live theatre and running a mid-size theatre company via the board of directors has told me that it's not so much the personal lives of individuals that you need to worry about but it's their behavior on the job. I am sure that the theatre company has a code of conduct to be carried out while on the job and that is one of the main things that would be important in this case.

Anyways, back to our regularly scheduled program...

Doc wouldn't have said a thing. You nailed it on the head. He was his right hand hit an so he got a wide birth.
Look for him to play the 'I wanted to help struggling ministers so don't question me' line. I'll be glad when the video is removed from the website. Although Baptist vs Pentecostal lawyers would be fun to watch!

I think it is important to remember that BJ does have a hx of a TBI which does impact his ability to interact and relate to others due to personality quirks as a result of that event. I think Haize gave good advice that BJ should avoid commenting due to his emotional state, but he could have maybe stated it in a better way.

I wasn't going to respond to this but I felt like I should. I can't speak for everyone, but I can tell you why I, personally, "come down hard on BJ."

BJ is the type of dude that has a great heart and great intentions, but sometimes steps out of bounds or says things that simply aren't correct. He doesn't do it on purpose and often times doesn't realize when he's doing it. That's happened going back to when we were in school together. What I learned by getting to know BJ better once he joined The LUnatics was that he responds very well when you confront him very directly. Sometimes that may come across as harsh but the intention isn't. It's the way that BJ and I have interacted for the past six years, even in person, and it's the reason that we can go back and forth without feelings getting hurt and can remain friends.

QFT...wishing you and Mrs SJ well out in Tennessee and wherever your journey may take you. I was sad to see the LUnatics disappear after you and I and Karen and BrysOn and JDUB and TBGBG and TTL moved on. I like the passion of somebody like JakeP50 because he is somebody that with a little guidance could lead a new generation of LUnatics on the mountain

I have a few friends that are just crazy enough to help bring the LUnatics back. If I can get them on board with this, you'll notice a difference by the end of football season.

I know that being crazy is only the beginning. They all have the same level of passion that I do, maybe not as delusional with optimism, and I know that's a big reputation to live up to but I think the four of us can handle the challenge.

Jon could tell you tons of stories of the exploits of the LUnatics. Easily the most passionate fans on the student side, and the pranks...OH the pranks...what I most remember is they made it to every home game for football and basketball (men's and later on women's), but they also traveled to many of the road games within driving distance (I remember seeing them at the Coastal game in 2008 and then stories from the William and Mary game as well). With the LUnatics leading the way, we had some of the most dangerous conditions for visiting teams to come into. That said though, they were all about having fun too (that PC football player prank comes to mind in that regard...remind me of the name again Jon...).

Update from News Advance

http://www.newsadvance.com/news/local/b ... f6878.html
Numerous references to a supposed partnership between Benny Hinn Ministries and Liberty University have been removed from the Benny Hinn Ministries website.
After being alerted that the evangelist was claiming to have a partnership with LU, school officials issued Benny Hinn Ministries a cease-and-desist order April 4 citing its unauthorized use of the university’s trademark and intellectual property.
