Roanoke news director ousted

Jim Kent, news director and longtime staff member at WDBJ (Channel 7), was ousted from the Roanoke station Tuesday.

Mike Bell was named interim news director, said Jeffrey Marks, WDBJ's newly installed president and general manager. Bell was previously the station's program and promotions director.

"Jim contributed greatly to the success of this newsroom ... at key periods in the growth of WDBJ," Marks said. He declined to say why Kent was removed.
