Appalachian Power filed a request Monday for two new rate increases with the Virginia State Corporation Commission.
As proposed by Appalachian Power, the power bill for an average customer using about 1,000 kilowatt hours per month could increase from $66.72 to $72.68. The increases could go into effect by the end of the year.
The rate increase proposals come on the heels of a May commission ruling that ordered Appalachian Power to roll back a rate increase tentatively approved last year. On top of the rollback, the commission also ordered the company to reimburse customers for the difference in rates over an eight-month period. Those refunds are due next month.
