I was talking to some gentleman and they informed me that at graduation, degree's would be confirred in groups (standing) instead of just going up and shaking Uncle J's hand. Whatta you guys think? Good idea, bad idea, or just don't care?

I know it takes a long time, but being able to shake ole Jerry's hand and have a picture that is even now up on the ole wall next to the diploma is good I think.

I already got a picture with him handing me my high school diploma...but I am sorta upset that I don't get to walk in front of the thousands of people that will be there to get it...oh well, being that my last name begins with "T" I'd probably sleep right through it.

I have always had no doubt that "W" would speak at LU just as his dad did. I remember going to see that one, it was cool. My guess is though that he does it in his last year in office as he won't have much to lose by being seen with us conservative folks.

I always heard that they were talking to him in '00 or '01. But I think the whole Bob Jones contraversy kept him away.

I'm graduating in May, and I hate this! I have been looking forward to being shaking Jerry's hand in front of the masses for 4 years. Now what? I get to shake my department chair's hand whom I see every day? That's crap!

I'm really surprised. The University of Texas is the largest school in the nation and everyone walks across the platform. Granted, they actually have separate ceremonies for each of the schools. They have a mass baccalaureate ceremony (without walking) and then have the individual schools do their ceremonies back-to-back-back over two days. I don't see why they couldn't follow a similar path here.

For the record, I have a feeling that Dr. J's aging has something to do with this decision. It has to wear him outl

There was talk of this happening back in the late 80's as well but the tradition has remained. Guess Jerry isn't getting any younger.

I like Sly's idea about the mass ceremony. LU could stick with Baccularate at TRBC on Friday night and do one mass ceremony in Vines and then break up to different locations on campus back to back to back.

Jon you were shaking Dr. Falwell's hand when I talked to you on Monday when I was doing the girls game. Like HMO said just get a picture with him. Go to my facebook photos and you can see a pic of me sitting on his lap at Christmas. He has a great sense of humor for sure. Kinda sad that he can't do it anymore. I hate growing old. I know I am no where near the good doc in age but I understand.

It's not the simple fact of shaking his hand. I have shaked his hand countless times in the last 4 years; the thing is I looked forward to walking across the stage in the Vines and shaking his hand while being on the big screen! I would feel like Larry Blair! (J/K)

...Though I still have a ways to go, Lord willing, and mindset is important also. I feel sooo
blessed to have my grad. pict. with Dr.J. (W's dad spoke the yr. I walked-actually finished in fall
'89). Maybe if he did group photos with each section it would be an exceptable emotional sub.
If they put each individual's pic. up on big screens that might be a second best to walking across
in front of the multitudes. BTW, at Homecoming 2005 I was so impressed by JF's down-to-earth
attitude. I was disappointed abt. only catching the end of parade (husband was off working on car,
12yr. old wasn't where I told him to be w/ little sister....) and missing a good pic. of him in little red.... He was in student center later, abt. to go in w/ Tim Lahaye. Dr.F. let me take a pic. of him-
after taking quick glance at football game. My son was too busy with video game (better not turn out like you guys on other thread ) and missed shaking hands with the Dr. but JF had told my 2yr. old daughter to come to LU. Her main focus was Pooh bear, so I ended the dialogue.
