I have a copy of Jerry going down the slide at Heritage USA on VHS tape that my mom taped way back in the day.

I have the whole show. It was some kind of fundraiser (that was also Jerry!). What was funny, is they hyped it up so much before he did it...they showed them walking up the stairs. Doug Oldham was supposed to go down, too. But he chickened out, and they sent a fake "Doug Oldham" down. (It was a manikin dressed up like Doug).

Jerry was in the water waiting for Doug to reach the bottom...he looked up, and the manikin got stuck. Jerry said, "That's not Doug".

This morning I went back and re-read the PTL chapter in Jerry's book.

I couldn't help but to think of the vision these men had and I certainly can't imagine the stress put on the Falwell family on various issues through the years. Re-reading that made me appreciate their entire family so much more.


Macel is a mighty woman to have been there through it all. We shouldn't forget her in the near future either. She'll need the love and support of the entire TRBC/LU family.

That whole PTL saga was tough on everyone at LU for those of us on campus at the time. If you look at pictures Dr. Falwell aged tremendously during that time as the school looked on the verge of bankruptcy.
