Yes, folks, this is what it's really like here. This is what today's letters to the editor consisted of, in its entirety. It's like an entire page dedicated to Falwell hatred. Then they try to sneak in a little blurb about the sign-complainers. Nice and balanced, as usual.

Gingrich invitation riles readers

The story on the front page, “Newt Address Liberty Grads.” reads more like a public relations release promoted by Newt’s mama than an unbiased news report. Is this man really the best the conservative right has to offer?
Gingrich’s Contract With America (also referred to as the Contract ON America) would have allowed corporate polluters to profit at the expense of the environment, and contributed to the shutdown of parts of the federal government for lack of funds. Part of his Welfare Reform Program was to take children away from single women on welfare and put them in orphanages. Although Gingrich pushes military spending and is hawkish about the war in Iraq, he managed to avoid the Vietnam War through a combination of student and family deferments. He had Jim Wright ousted from his position as speaker of the House based on ethics violations and then had to pay $300,000 in fines for similar infractions. He admits to multiple extracurricular affairs during his three marriages, and served his first wife divorce papers while she was in the hospital recuperating from cancer surgery then refused to pay child support. While calling for the impeachment of President Clinton for the Lewinsky scandal, Gingrich was in the midst of an extramarital affair with Callista Bisek.
Face it, Jerry, your “long-time friend” is preaching virtues from a glass house. Future generations will use the term “to Gingrich” to mean committing an act of hypocrisy.

Hit the trail, Newt
Please run, Newt.
Please team up with Jerry Falwell to lecture the rest of the nation on morals. Nothing could match watching these two masters of hypocrisy expose themselves on a national scale.
Please do it, Newt.
People would finally hear of Mr. Falwell’s devotion to the self-proclaimed “Messiah” Sun Yung Moon; his devotion to bigotry, racism, segregation and apartheid, all documented in his own words could be explored.
Perhaps Mr. Falwell can finally explain why he refers to himself as “Doctor” when he in fact has no such earned credentials.
Then Newt will explain to us how his multiple extra marital affairs, one with an intern while speaker of the House, makes him a uniquely qualified moral role model. Also Newt can spin us all into euphoria explaining why his own party gave him the boot after the 1998 congressional elections.
Lastly, maybe as a nationally televised tag team they can explain why they both supported the Iraq war and then declared it the beginning of World War III (Newt) and the end of the world (Jerry). Were they both hoping for carnage on a global scale for personal or political gain?
Please run, Newt. With friends like Jerry, who needs enemies?

Hypocrisy?
In response to the March 10 story “Falwell backs Gingrich,” I’ve got one question: Is there anyone in this town who can see the hypocrite who runs Thomas Road Baptist Church?
First he supports his friend Ted Haggard (the president of a national evangelical organization) who openly admitted to having a gay relationship. Then his close friend Newt Gingrich has an extramarital affair while impeaching former president Bill.
Then Falwell says Democrats have no moral values. Correct me if I’m wrong, but seems to me that Falwell can address issues such as being gay or cheating on your spouse as long as it’s about someone he doesn’t like, such as a Democrat. So, does Falwell like cheating husbands and gay relationships when it comes to his friends? Does anyone out there see what’s going on besides me?
I judge no one, so how people choose to live their lives is OK with me, but being two-faced is wrong no mattter what.

The sign again
I want to tell all of these people who have nothing to do but complain about a sign on a privately owned piece of property to get a life!
The land on Candlers Mountain is owned by Liberty University and Jerry Falwell, so they can do what they want. Falwell has added to this city exponentially and we should be thankful. LU is a source of pride for me, and your students are a huge and great addition to Lynchburg.
The next time any of you want to complain just because it’s Jerry Falwell, just open a good book and relax.

I found this to be really funny and to me disqualify this person's opinion!
I judge no one, so how people choose to live their lives is OK with me, but being two-faced is wrong no mattter what.
So basically you judge no one, so what do you do with those who are two faced? I love when people start out with things like that. Sentences that start out with "I judge no one....but" "I'm not racist.....but", etc. never end well. It merely shows that they are exactly doing or being what they claim they are not.
