I just spent soooo long responding to a few comments (partly b/c of this ***keyboard, partly b/c I was writing a book :) ). I'll have to start a thread or 2 in response at a later date, but I am impassioned and must stay up a few more min. Summary approach isn't my style, but I'll try:
SJ and ATrain- I don't personally know the Judgemental Ones and maybe you don't either; maybe they're out of line and maye you're being defensive/ convicted. If you're confident in how you stand before God, just respond in a loving way to the individals (struggling w/ living IN this world but not OF IT?) instead of lumping them together-maybe it will start a ripple effect across campus and into the world.
Tally, your harsh words brought tears to my eyes (I coud just hide behid this computer but I'm being honest). As a pastor, do you not have opportuity to minister to homeschoolers? If so, maybe some prayerful consideration how to positively influence worldiew w/out judging would be in order.
More later (Courtyd. and Chapel) when I have time. I'll miss most of you. :)

The "As a Pastor" stuff always gets me. Especially when it's uncalled for.

If you will go back and read what SJ wrote and what I said in response I was not calling people who were home schooled 'freaks'... I was speaking about the judgmental out-to-lunch crowd who as SJ said would have to pray about what to eat for lunch.... Unfortunately I've dealt with these people in church and they look more like a Pharisee than a Christ-follower so yes I call those folks 'freaks'. Good 'ol Wikipedia has a current verbage definition for the slang word 'freak'... it says "In current usage, the word freak is used to refer a person with an unusual personality." So YEP... I am guilty of thinking that people who act like you should kiss their ring for how holy they are... are freaks. I did not call homeschoolers names. I'd love to see a retraction... it's quite possible that in your frustration with the keyboard you neglected to see the separate paragraphs (hence separate thoughts) in SJ's post. You assumed the worst and began crying without seeing what I wrote. I don't like being called out for something I didn't do so please make every effort to see to it that you're telling the truth before you put someone on blast...

As for my experience with homeschoolers... yes I have worked with homeschoolers... I had socially adjusted homeschool friends at LU. Homeschooling doesn't ruin a person... it's more about the social network of the child. In my youth ministry years back I had a family of homeschooled kids and all of them were heavily involved in public sports and even a homeschool network where they had actual class time twice a week to get the kids interacting as well as a homeschool athletics program where they competed mostly against private schools. I'm very aware of homeschooling as well as how to minister to their unique needs.

I'd honestly appreciate a re-reading of the posts in question and a retraction.

TALLY, I still love you.

Even if we do disagree about open space referendums, or impact fees for developers

I have had home schooled students in my classes, and many do quite well with the social adjustments; however, there are cases where the social skills lag way behind the expected norm for an 18 or 19 year old.

most homeschool kids i met were a bit nieve but otherwise pretty okie dokie....2 of the good buddies i made there were homeschooled..

LU is good...if you are looking for trouble, you can find it relatively easy...

if you want a great dorm family that you wouldnt' otherwise find in a secular school or other christian colleges, lu has it..

education wise....as a business major, there was a bit more to be desired...
