Liberty's politics gets worse each year. and they get burn by it to every time they support someone. like someone said earlier. Carrie Prejean and her sex tape. Dinesh D'Souza and his little cheating scandal. They seriously look like idiots.

cant believe they are supporting a kid who broke the law and lied about it.

From the article:
Liberty spokeswoman Johnnie Moore said in a statement, "Liberty University is pleased that the charges against Cole Withrow were reduced to a misdemeanor, but we still believe this is more punishment than he deserves."

Yes. Yes they did.
I think the punishment fits the crime. According to the article, it sounds like the kid actually did forget he had them, but when he had the opportunity to take them home, he forgot, then got caught. IMO, typical of a HS age kid.
As for the scholarship, meh. Probably wasn't the best thing in the world but its sorta par for the course. It's not like he thinks we should hang gays in Uganda or anything like that.

If he did this AND came out that he was gay, would he still keep his scholarship??

I cannot believe this. This kid is being rewarded for lieing to police, school officials and LU and he is being rewarded with a scholarship to college. I am extremely disappointed in LU right now, the political nonsense has gone too far this time. Stick to educating people (what college is for) and get the schools nose out of every political debate.

nobody cares if you guys associate yourselves with this school. You guys are such drama queens. They sort of put themselves in a precarious position here already offering it to him. I don't see how the decision to revoke or keep the offer standing is political in any way. It's just sort of like "crap, what do we do?"

We put our tail between our legs, revoke his scholarship he should never have gotten and give it to a student that actually needs it and deserves it.

I'm sure Jr has talked to the kid personally as it sounds in that most recent video he has. He accepted a plea deal to get a lesser punishment. Who knows what actually happened. It's a crappy situation to be in but I don't see how this is in any way important.

While I wasn't exactly totally and completely "out," per se, my last year of grad school, it was no secret with the higher ups that I was "struggling with homosexuality," and I stayed in on scholarship thru graduation. For the record, Liberty DOES NOT discriminate against gays...the Liberty Way just bans sexual immorality. And in my opinion, if I had gotten kicked out for that...well, it would've been my own d**n fault for being stupid.

I went to Liberty with full tuition for undergrad and full ride + stipend for grad school, got a good education and now have a good job. In return, Liberty has an alum who is succeeding in life, makes donations and is not afraid to speak openly about being gay and having an overall positive experience at the school.

If second, or third, chances weren't given...I wouldn't have graduated.

First Carrie Prejean, and now this NC kid?

I feel Liberty must be careful in offering scholarships to people that get in the lime-light of news. I'm all for doing the right thing when someone did not (or does not) get a 'fair shake', but you must do a bit of research on a person and let some things ride out before getting involved.
