Since Liberty student represent about 5% of the region, I'd be more concerned about the locals.

That Kroger isn't as special as the Forest folks think- it couldn't even support an in-store coffee shop. My buddy out in Ivy Hill is always bragging about how great the store out there is (all the while making every effort to move into the city). My former student, who was a manger out there and is now in the Boonsboro store didn't care much for the Forest Kroger.

Well if they put a Trader Joe's in Candlers Station and it does well, I will happily eat my crow...southern fried of course

I love Trader Joe's, and not just for the Two (now three) Buck Chuck, along with their other wines. Great selection of things I can't get anywhere else, specifically cookie butter.

I'm not saying I'm against a Trader Joe's, I just don't know how successful it would be in Candler's Station. TJ hasn't even made it's way to Greensboro yet (although a store just opened in Winston-Salem), and I'd be surprised to see one open in Lynchburg before Greensboro.

If a tenant cannot be found, I think Liberty could consider turning it into a student activity space such as a roller skating rink or laser tag arena, much like the skate park they built a year or so ago. It would give the students and community more options and would draw people to the shopping center as well. Just my two cents.

I know that was big in the 1950s--my parents' first date was roller skating--and it had a revival with roller disco in the 1970s, but do people really still roller skate in 2012?

I wondered the same thing. Also, who still plays laser tag?

Why not one of them fancy pool halls...billiards they call it...but that might spell trouble...
