I just got an email about Liberty getting its own zip code: 24515.

(My only regret is that we couldn't buy the beloved zip code of Rivermont Ave: 24503).

Post Office receives new zip code, sorting machine to accommodate growth
July 19, 2012 : By BJ Williams/Liberty University News Service

It is sometimes said that places are so big they deserve their own zip code. This month Liberty University is living up to that by converting to its own zip code, 24515, in response to unprecedented growth in enrollment.

Liberty has more than 12,500 students in residential programs and more than 80,000 studying its online education program. It is the world’s largest Christian university, the largest private four-year college in the country, and the largest college in Virginia.

A major campus transformation is under way, including the new Jerry Falwell Library and a new baseball stadium under construction.

All the changes and the growth necessitated the new zip code, a process that began about four years ago, according to Bob Boyer, director of Postal Services at Liberty. The university has made a couple of attempts over the last 10 years. The change was approved in June.

“We felt that as Liberty expands, our footprint in the city is going to grow,” Boyer said. “It would also help the post office to get the mail throughout the university in a timely manner.”

Received an email about this the other day:
Liberty University has an important announcement regarding the recent ZIP code messages.

Liberty’s ZIP code will remain 24502 until further notice.

Please disregard the emails you previously received about implementing 24515. If you have sent mail or packages to the university using that ZIP, they will still reach your intended party.

We apologize for the confusion and for any inconvenience this may cause.

Sincerely,
Postal Services
