Lynchburg natives poised to start as rival quarterbacks for Tech, UVa

The two young men, who could soon be idolized, criticized, even deified as the starting quarterbacks at the two major college football programs in Virginia, did their best to blend in among the worshipers at Thomas Road Baptist Church one recent Sunday.

This church is where their stories meet. The two polite, religious, deeply gifted individuals have both been blessed with the ability to throw a football a country mile and lead a large group of their peers in a violent, fantastic game. And they grew up only five miles apart in Lynchburg.

Michael Rocco, who is expected to be named the starting quarterback any day now at University of Virginia, and Logan Thomas, the starting quarterback at Virginia Tech, saw each other from across the sanctuary. After church, they stopped to talk for a little bit.
