A no-frills bus company will take passengers between Christiansburg, Knoxville, Tenn., and Washington, D.C., for as little as $1 a trip. It's not going through Lynchburg, but still, that is really cheap travel. I was looking at a trip from Knoxville to Christiansburg for my brother, and round-trip would be about $6. Maybe Lynchburg city council and LU can give these guys a call to make a stop out this way.
Megabus will stop in the New River Valley at Exit 118A off Interstate 81. That's 25 miles south of the I-81 and I-581 interchange in the Roanoke Valley and on the Smart Way bus route, which connects the New River and Roanoke valleys.
Megabus says service will start Dec. 15 with 56-seat buses making three daily trips from the area to Knoxville and Washington. If ridership increases sufficiently, Megabus plans to use an 81-passenger double-decker bus.
