It's not allowed in the dorms. That certainly doesn't mean it isn't there.

One year, the guys across the hall from me on 7-2 made a big sign and mounted it on one of the ceiling tiles that said, "Dear RA, please do not move this ceiling tile. This is where we keep our booze and if you move the tile, it will all fall on the floor."

Everyone just thought they were trying to be funny so it was two months later after the guys stumbled, completely sloshed, out of their room at 6AM that an RA actually looked in the ceiling. Sure enough, just above that tile was enough booze to start a small package store.

its like anything else- don't do it to excess and you're fine. A little self-control goes a long way.

Man has THIS thread jumped the shark.

Well what cracks me up the most is when people are carrying these huge coffee mugs to class at the end of August... Yeah definitely not coffee!!!!!!

The problem is that most kids (and I did say most) aren't all about self-control when they get their first freedom from their parents in the world that is college. I'm not one to say that drinking is wrong, but I'm perfectly okay with LU's current policy on alcohol.

you'd be very surprised if you were to talk to some LU heads off the record to see what they think about it....but like yall said where in the rule book can you say, you can do it....just not to much

I think that it would be good to point out that although smoking/drinking is found at LU...I think that the very presense of rules keeps it down...

Yes, I think its sort of good that LU is somewhat lax in their applying the rules (if you read the original Liberty Way, I think you could get reps for taking food that you don't eat that cafeteria)...

Anyway, I went to a branch campus of the University of Pittsburgh (UPJ...some of you guys played basketball there when you were at LU).

Anyway, the difference is night and day...at a lot of secular schools (such as UPJ)... they PROMOTE drinking, drugs, "experimenting", sex, etc.

At LU, these things are discouraged, and that's a good thing...at the same time, I think it's also a good think that they aren't as legalistic about enforcement as they used to be...College kids will be college kids...but the structure does help...and I don't feel as bad about people getting reps if they've had a couple of warnings first.

In the end, I also don't think LU has as many people that develop alcohol problems as other schools...where the fraternities and sororities seem to have contests stacking up how many kegs they can drink in a weekend. Just my opinion.

If you're drinking on campus you're an idiot who is probably under age anyway.

The bible is clear on alcohol being fine but not drunkeness. Galatians 5 puts drunkeness in there with orgies and idolatry.

Galatians 5:19-20
"19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God."

The other thing is that Liberty is an institution with policy. If you sign up... live up to it. If you can't/won't... then don't attend. How much better off are we really if we laugh and enjoy trying to gloat about having a problem following authority in our lives? Doesn't say much for our hearts.

Personally I see nothing wrong with alcohol being consumed as long as the Holy Spirit is able to control your life. When we're drunk, we break down the ability for the Spirit to lead. Just my .02 on this IMAX board :)

Just my .02 on this IMAX board
Just as long as you stay below .08!
jk

You all raise great points--EVERYTHING in moderation, but good solid Baptist theology dictates NO alcohol--that way, you never have the possibility of OVER indulging.

Good thing I am not "solid" more of a gelatinous mass!! Can you be a Mass and still Baptist.
As for IMAX at LU, the one thing that no one is looking at is that it could be used to put huge pictures of JF on screen 24/7. Great marketing, it worked for the Ayatollah!! (Fletch Lives Line, just wanted to bust it out)

Would someone please tell me how we are not sinking in debt. I mean i am all for spending but it seems to me the last year has been nuts from a $$$ perspective. This should be interesting.

I would refer you to the "Glowing" Forbes article. It states we are STILL ONLY 30 million in debt. This number did not take into account upcoming capital projects. (Which sounds a lot like projectors or projection screens that someone said had a 16 mil price tag)

But Jerry's only looking for a $1 billion gift to offset the $50 million a year spending they're planning on!!!
But it's still $30 million in debt. "We need a financial safety net," says Falwell fils. An endowment of $1 billion, he thinks, could throw off $50 million a year, enough to cover growing operating costs and to underwrite some of the 2,000 scholarships Liberty offers each year (tuition, room and board run $19,950).

He's not looking for a billion dollar gift. He's looking to build a billion dollar endowment. Almost all universities of any stature operate off of an endowment this way.
