Did LU/TRBC get a good bulk rate on these signs? Within the last couple of weeks they are posted on trees along the road about every 30 feet on Candler's Mountain. Was there some trespassing incident? They own a large chunk of land right next to me and I walk my dog through it all the time. But I know that it has probably seriously annoyed some hunters that used to prowl that land too. In fact now that I think about it, the entire mountain is basically now a deer sanctuary, which sucks as there's always a couple of deer collisions a week on Candler's Mt Rd already it seems like. Should I bring this up at Beast Feast?

Have no fear Coach Green is taking care of them on the other side of the mtn towards our place!

Anyone hunting private land needs to have specific written permission, so the signs would not apply to them. They may actually be a safety measure and legal disclaimer to try to prevent unauthorized folks from getting shot and to cover our backsides if they do.

I thought it might be a liability thing but it just seems like they've gotten by fine without it for so long.

Are you sure about hunters needing permission on private land? I'm not familiar with Virgina laws, but I know in other more liberal states up north you can hunt on any land unless it's otherwise posted. I think it would be strange if VA had more restrictive laws for hunters.

Yeah, the only place you dont is in State Forests....I know with our land we have a list, Coach Green is there the most so we let him kind of control it. On the Airport side they have permission to hunt year round because of so many deer being hit by airplanes....so needless to say that list is quite a bit longer because of the year round aspect.

But yes, you have to have permission...maybe there is a loophole saying if you dont see signs posted. I'm not sure...I know we have signs up everywhere so I guess you have a point.

you need permission to hunt on private land in generally most states, regardless of postings. retreiving game from private land without permission differs from state to state.

I have a portion that backs up to my property, too. A kind of out-of-the-way piece of land. I know it had been hunted on and some guys on 4-wheelers, but I think they were told they couldn't do either any more. Kind of a bummer, I was hoping to ride dirt bikes and shoot some pistols back in there, would have been very convenient.

I also noticed that the wind last night has basically bent a bunch of those signs into nice little "L" s....

yeah they posted it like crazy around my house. I know the game warden has been called on several people recently hunting without permission on LU property. There are people watching for people without permission in several places.
As far as the dirt bike trails, they aren't open yet to the public. There are still a few more things that have to be taken care of before it can officially open, mainly dealing with liability stuff.

Whatever. I'm still walking my dog on your property LU! I'm not using the degree I paid for. I might as well use your property.

As long as coach Sherrard isn't hunting with him, I think we'll be fine in the recruiting area.

There have been quite a few incidents of people illegally hunting on LU property. the only area it is allowed on is Lone Jack Mtn and then with written permission for members of the LU Archery club only.

I was actually over at my buddy Jon's house (next to HMO) on the last day of hunting season (i dropped an 8ptr with my bow earlier in the morning) and we heard several shots over on the mountain and hopped in his truck to go check it out. long story short we spent about 3 hrs chasing hunters around up there.

people should just respect private and posted property. otherwise, they get what they deserve.

i had a great hunting season. got 5 deer all with my bow. only thing i wanted to get and didnt was a bear. donated 2.5 deer to families that needed them. the rest has kept me fed quite nicely : ) (it tastes better when you kill it yourself) all of my deer came off of a 7 acre piece of property ust north of lynchburg on 501. i can say with authority that azalea fed venison is better than corn fed beef ; )

btw, HMO, do you think I could get on one of those city archery permits for the airport?

HMO recently spent some time down here in the Triangle so I wore on him some... There is no shame in spending some time at the GMTM school of grammar:)
