At well over 6 feet tall and with a booming, boisterous voice, Wayne Kompelien is already an imposing figure.
Now imagine him in a flowing cape and what he calls a “rock-n-roll wig,” which he donned to play ruthless assassin Sparafucile in Opera Roanoke’s production of “Rigoletto” a few years ago.
It’s one of his most memorable roles, says Kompelien, a Liberty University music professor and opera singer who has been performing for more than 20 years.
