I'm sure we all could quote a case where someone has trouble walking and the parking situation is hard on them. I know students where this is the case. But really if they have trouble walking they need to pressure their doctor for a handicap sticker. It isn't LU's fault that they can't walk.. Lu provides handicaps for that and there isn't much more they can do.

If you go to any retail store, you will notice that the staff parks in the back of the lot because the front is left for customers. Looking at that from the school perspective, the students are the customers because they are paying, so they are getting the front row. Does that mean retail doesn't value the staff? NO. that means they want the customer to have the best experience possible because they are the ones paying the money. The school appreciates the staff. They just held the first ever faculty/staff appreciation day where they let their families go to LaHaye Student Center, Ice Center, and swimming pool for free. They just issued a cost of living raise, which isn't that much, but it is something. It is still better than a lot of people get. They didn't have to give any of that.

Bottom line, the school is a business. It may not be perfect, but it is doing the best it can to make everyone happy. People may whine, but I doubt that those whiners could do anything close to what has been done by JJ if they were in his shoes. It is always easy to whine and complain about things when you are looking selfishly from your own point of school, but if you put yourself in administrations shoes and try to do what is best for the University, I think you will agree that this was a great decision and will vastly improve the current parking situation.

I do agree the parking situation for staff at CN isn't bad, it's much better than the staff parking on main campus.

Good analogy, JDUB...

...and the same holds true in hospitals...where patient parking is generally close, followed by the doctors' parking, and then staff in the outlying lots. It is a pretty good model to follow. Just like any change, I am sure there will be complaints...and I suspect there may even be some tweaks as everything unfolds over the next few weeks.

Right. I'm not saying its a bad idea or I don't agree with it. I know that the aforementioned people will just have to deal with it. Doesn't mean I don't feel for them. That's all I'm saying. I'm glad that there has been action taken to rectify inequities with the parking...and I feel it will only get better.

FWIW...
...sign company is on campus today changing the signs out.

As far as CN faculty parking, does anyone have an idea if the TRBC staff parking is going to be moved out of the designated faculty area?

That is my understanding, but I could be wrong.

OK...the signs are up for the CN Faculty area...with the signs clearly saying that lot is FACULTY AND COMMUTER PARKING as well...so...if anyone with ties to the administration and perhaps the new Vice Chancellor is reading on here...I sure hope the university is going to clearly mark which spaces are which.

I know, because it'd be a shame if the faculty got better spots than the customers.

All I want is a parking space...and the rules to be enforced...and the parking to be as marked on the maps. That is not asking for too much. I like the parking idea and towing will be the answer...so long as it all is enforced.

The one thing that LU could do to solve 80% of all parking problems (probably more, but I'm underestimating intentionally) is to assign parking spaces. You get a sticker, you get a spot. Campus students get a spot by their dorms. Staff get spots near their offices. Faculty get spots near their academic buildings. Commuting students get parking near the academic buildings beyond the staff spots. If you're not in your spot, you get towed. If they run out of spots, you don't park on campus. Commuters get first crack, then seniors, juniors, sophomores, freshmen. </rant>

IIRC, when I was at Liberty freshmen couldn't have cars unless they had to work to afford school.

Phoenix, WHEN was that? I've been at LU 23 years, and I can't recall a time when freshmen couldn't have cars.

Yeah I never recall that one either...I think it's a fib his parents told him so he couldnt take his car :D

Our kids tend to be a little lazier then most kids...I'll never forget when I was running the transit and there was a huge movement by the circle to get a stop literally just a few minutes walk from another....so what did we do...give it to them lol

I think in the early 80's freshmen weren't allowed to have cars. I seem to remember that when my sister was in school at that time.

I was there '86-'89. I didn't really WANT to take my car to school -- 70-something Plymouth Fury, banana yellow, stylish AM-AM radio. I ended up with an '87 Escort my senior year. Same AM-AM radio, though -- I kept an old boom box in the back seat so I could listen to "decent" music.

Why don't they just say that freshmen can't have cars???? I don't understand. I feel it would solve a bit of the problem.

They did this and it didn't work. Students would park in staff spot on CN, get a ticket and then go yell at LUPD about getting a ticket. I even saw an Asian girl yell at them in broken english, it was very funny.

We draw from all over the country, and allowing freshman to have cars is a good thing for LU. We have the parking places to handle it, so the enforcement this semester will be the key. I feel a lot will be solved by the resident students not being able to move their cars.

I will preface this with since the last time I was in a meeting about this our Freshman class has increased some but the same rules apply but these numbers have changed some. During the busiest times at LU (generally on Tue/Thurs) there are still 1,200 spots open on campus....even if you were to keep Freshman from bringing their cars it would only take that number to a little over 3,000...although if you look at where the Freshman generally park it wouldnt do much good for anyone

Is it true that staff now needs blue staff and Campball County stickers to park?

That would be hard to do, because Campbell County does not require stickers anymore. (I am assuming you are talking about the stickers on your windshield next to your inspection sticker)
