No doubt man...that's very important (not as much umpiring as much as coaching) but anything you do volunteering is committing a civic duty

LOL...No smooth is not one of those guys in fact the purpose is to make sure that the grass will be green in the future...in general Roanoke is a older community so they are working on ways to help bring youth to it (we have a thread somewhere about it already)

I'm going to shoot an email to our City Manager and see if there is anything already in existence and if not how we could start it

After Shuck responded back with "none" (later he revised it) I shot a email to Proto b/c I really didnt think this thread was going to be very helpful

the thing is many "young people" complain about nothing to do in both roanoke and lynchburg, but they never step up and do anything about it. it gets old. and as long as no new blood is brought in it will be dominated by the older generation. this also goes for running for public office. no reason why a younger person cannot run for city council or be on a committee to further the cause of a locality.

this is probably not the place for this, but who knows...i think it be cool to get a not for profit music venue with a nice coffee shop and some positive things for younger people to do here in town...i am not talking a "Christian" thing...because this town has plenty to offer when it comes to that, but just a place younger people could go and hang out...and each week something different could come in targeting different age groups....

I don't know the history when it comes to music venues around here but it seems as if every time something gets going it dies shortly there after and I have no idea why...

I don't know the first thing about getting something like this going, but i always though lynchburg would be a great place for something like that, especially with liberty and other colleges in town....

i don't know just an idea i always have in my head but don't know the first thing about getting something like that going....

No i would say acquiring some possible funds would be first......without funds or the possibility of funds whats the point of applying for anything?

bigsmooth wrote:you should start something like that in the burg.... it is also a good social group as well. i have been around just laying low but let's catch up.

I emailed Kimbal Payne (Lynchburg's City Manager) and he directed me to Young Professionals of Central Virginia. It doesnt appear that they are very active except hosting events such as Friday Cheers but hopefully they have meetings as well for planning and other things. If not maybe I can get behind it.

A friend of mine is a young Lawyer here in Lynchburg and is involved so I'm going to put a call into him as well

I wrote my Non-Profit Management final paper on applying for 501c3 status and filling out Form 1040. Got a 200/200 on that one.

Then I'll sue for discrimination and they'll have to let me in.
