The family and I made a trip to Lynchburg a couple of weeks ago and stayed 10 days. Mrs. AZjonz had an intensive for her graduate program at Liberty. We decided to make a vacation of it as best as we can, so I went to VRBO.com and found a cottage at Red Hawk farm off of 501 north going towards Big Island.

I wanted to give a plug so others of you who travel to Lynchburg might consider this place. I would highly recommend it. For about $125 a night (cheaper in the off-season), you get a 1 bedroom, 1 bath cottage that has everything. TV/Sat, full kitchen with all dishes and utensils, a grill, living room, etc. The farm is a hobby farm so you won’t get any funky farm smells. It is well maintained by the owners – with awesome views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. There is a small private lake where the back patio of the cottage overlooks. I was able to take my kids fishing for the first time. Because it’s private, we didn’t need a license. Also, I took the canoe out on the lake in the late afternoon and was able to enjoy the quietness of the outdoors and do some fishing on my own. We caught bass (large and small mouth), crappie, sunfish, and rumors of catfish.

If you stay here, you’ll be about 20 minutes from Liberty and 5 minutes to the shopping plazas of Boonsboro. A nice married couple owns the farm, but you’ll more than likely deal with Marcia. She left for us some farm fresh eggs and a bottle of wine for our first night. Also, the wife loved the 600 count Egyptian cotton sheets. They give you your space, and you never feel like they are watching over you.

That being said, when I come back next year and I can’t get the cottage because someone reserved it before me because of this post – I promise I will smear your name on this board as an anonymous poster.

VRBO.com – the pictures don’t do it justice.

BTW – the plane into Atlanta was warm. I discovered that folks there don’t like it when you say “it’s hotter than a Sherman fire in here”. They don’t cotton to that!
