Sorry, Lang, but a colored fishwrap is still a fishwrap--even if the upgrade cost $26 million. Frankly, I liked the black & white paper better, because the new one looks like a Lynchburg version of the USA Today. What's worse, every section has its own color bar, and the sports page's bar is very close to being Carolina blue.

Honestly, the bigger draw to me wasn't the color as much as it was the cleanness of the paper itself. Our old press was atrocious. It destroyed photos and made color graphics look smudged and trashy. I've only seen the prototypes of the paper, but they looked pretty nice.

I wasn't a huge fan of the color bars either, but since I have pretty much no say in how the paper is designed, I'll just do my job and write. You'll see a huge difference in football season, when some of those inside pages (the ones dedicated to LU, Tech and UVa on gamedays) are in color. It's going to look so much nicer.

Looking forward to it. Thanks, Lang.

I heard that the new press will make the news (note Lang I said news) writers actually write good stories! It will also enable them to cover more local news and stop reprinting so many AP stories!     :D

They spend $25M on a printing press for hard copies that are becoming obsolete nearly overnight? I think Lang would agree with me if he could that some raises to keep their good writers and the ability to get their storie son the web with pics would've been a much better use of money.

Agree completely. Everything is moving to the web.

Yes, this discussion has been had among our writers, probably more times than I care to admit.

If everything is moving to the web...then the newspaper will need to actually update the web page!

The only issue is that when fishwraps die, we will not have bird cage liners anymore.
