Very interesting read from a woman talking about her sister at LU ... and Liberty is not getting bashed for once.

MY TURN

A Simple Twist Of Faith
I didn't understand my sister's draw to evangelical Christianity. But I've learned to trust her choices.

Seeing the Light: Kristen (left) had proved me wrong

By Theresa Gonzalez | NEWSWEEK
Feb 4, 2008 Issue

It was November 2003, and my two sisters and I were headed to Paris on a red-eye from Newark. Our plane hit a rough patch, and the three of us reacted to the heavy turbulence in ways that were as diverse as our personalities. Shelly, a year younger than I at 30, shot me an angry look for having planned this trip, while I, in my typical reaction to all things that make me nervous, laughed hysterically. Kristen, the youngest at 16, appeared totally cool, reading her book, seemingly oblivious to the plane's stomach-turning dips. When we finally settled into our hotel, relieved, I asked Kristen how she had stayed so calm. She responded simply, "I just prayed."

I don't know. This is still written with a high level of elitist snobbery.

yeah, whats up with being against the death penalty...

maybe if those morons had killed more criminals, there would be less REPEAT offenders... i mean thats exactly the type of behavior the death penalty is designed to stop... duh!!!

um, not exactly ignorance...

if you kill somebody, how are they going to commit the crime again?

one more thing, we aren't talking death penalty over stealing a candy bar here... anyone convicted of murder, rape, sexual assault on a child, etc... should get the death penalty.

if the death penalty is good enough for God, its good enough for me.... and good luck on trying to argue THAT! if you've got a problem with the death penalty, then go tell God he was wrong. i'd like to see how THAT works out for ya.

further more, with no death penalty, you end up with illegal aliens crossing the border to comit crimes because they know they will only be deported so they can do it all over again... oh wait. that already happens.

to be AGAINST the death penalty is ignorance. the death penalty says that there are some actions so abhorrent that they must be punished with the greatest punishment possible. the action ends the criminals threat to society, pays the debt that their actions demand to society, and serves as a warning for those who would also be tempted to commit those crimes in the future. like i said before, take that one up with God, he invented it.

I'm not going to get involved with the death penalty argument. I'm going to say that I began reading the article, thinking it to be a great contribution to my staff's next weekly staff meeting/devotion. I thought this even before reading it included a reference to my alma mater. I think it's a great article that concludes with what should be the point of every Christian - let your life do the talking!

Kristen, who is a Spiritual Life Director in Dorm 3, said she was surprised that her sister had remembered the details of the flight so well. “My sister called me when her article was accepted, and I thought it was great,” Gonzalez said. “I was glad that my faith has been a positive influence and that I was a model for her.”
