I assume there are students at LU who don't like sports or basketball, so why shouldn't they have the option of being able to attend a student activities sponsored event while a basketball game is occurring? is the student activities board for all the students, not just ones who would go to a men's basketball game? also, if a student who actually likes basketball or sports in general attends a christmas movie night over a ball game, they probably would be the type of fan that just sits there and does nothing to begin with, so i don't see how that would effect the atmosphere of the game much...
You ask great questions. I don't think it's so simple as making a choice between one or the other, though, since college is a social thing. It's often about what your group of friends and/or significant other want to do. For me, it just seems like it would be easy to not schedule things on days when there are athletic competitions. That way they wouldn't have to compete and there wouldn't be any discussion.
in the average week, how many student activities sponsored events are there?

well then, I have to say student activities should have done it on a different day and/or time since they apparently do so few activities. Does anyone else know if other schools of similar size also have such drastically few student activities sponsored events? 0.5 seems really freaking low to me for a school the size of LU...

There's a lot of stuff that goes on here, but most of it is not put on by the Student Activities office. The SAO only schedules medium to large sized events (concerts mostly), and there are only so many of those that happen in the course of a semester. That's why everyone raises such a ruckus when they schedule something at the same time as an athletic event. All we want is for them to look at the athletic calendar and not schedule these events on the same day as Football/Basketball games. Those should be the only big events on campus on the days that they happen.

If I'm wrong, someone please correct me. That's just what I'm able to put together from looking at the university calendar and the SAO page on the website.

Can't call them SAO......that's reserved for the Student Advocates Office.
