Some folks in my station here in Houston brought this to my attention tonight. Did this guy get canned?

I don't normally watch the news on Channel 10, so I don't know. Area news stations like to fire people for random reasons, though, so I wouldn't be surprised.

I think if anyone, the person goofing off off-camera should get the boot. He obviously wasn't laughing at the story.

Not likely. At Channel 10, you can carry a Hefty bag full of angel dust into the building and you're OK, so I'm guessing a simple on-air flub actually gets you a promotion. Now, having dirty pictures on your Facebook page, however, will get you banished to the hinterlands. And by hinterlands, I mean sports radio.

I guess there is a multi-tiered system in the news bidniz (large metros vs small cities) but that would not have been tolerated in the Philly market.

And the sets always look like they're taken from the local HS cable access shows.

i do not watch channel 10 as they are horrible but when did this happen?? as everyone has said the activities some at this station have done and not been fired are a bit crazy.

I actually think some of the firings at our local stations were for ridiculous reasons. The Jamey Singleton "scandal" was stupid, and something he had no control over. The Tab O'Neal ordeal was ridiculous, as anyone with an internet connection and a personality can be a weatherman these days.

macphisto, he had a drug problem. his fellow weatherman mark lamarre almost died from the drugs from the same dealer. the myspace incident was the last straw whether he control over it or not. it is just not good business when you are in the public spotlight.
