CULLOWHEE – A few months ago, a whistle announced the beginning of Western Carolina’s spring drills. Some Catamounts sprinted to midfield. Others jogged. A few walked.
A whistle screeched again. First-year coach Dennis Wagner made an announcement. The essence of his message: That’s not good enough.
Players retreated to all corners of the field, awaited another whistle then frantically hustled toward the 50-yard line as though wild bears were chasing them.
