Accordin to the Miami Herald and Mike and Mike Billy Packer has called his last Final Four. He will be replaced by Clark Kellog on the lead announce team for CBS. I guess he shouldn't have said this game is over between UNC and KU 8 minutes in. An announcement is expected later today.

He was the one guy in sports that both fans of the 2 opposing teams he was calling could feel like he was completely rooting against them. It takes practice to be that bad. He also harped on miscalls way too much.

I read that apparently Duke and many, many schools wrote and told CBS not to allow Packer to announce their home games...

i doubt that. he'd been commentating them for years, i doubt they would make him stop now. they knew he'd step down soon, he is old

well, he didn't retire. I wonder if he will. Or I wonder if ESPN will grab him.

I wonder if Billy's ego could handle the level of opportunities he'll have available? I believe the answer is no and ultimately he'll go into semi-retirement doing just a few key events for someone.

I listen to Mark Packer's (his son) show on the way to work. Not sure if you guys get that up there, but all the calls today were how much everyone loved him etc. I wonder how many people they called up and paid to get them to do that. I've never actually met anyone who liked Billy Packer. It almost made me puke listening to those calls.

I like Packer and his son Mark does have a good show down in Charlotte, the closest station that he is on up this way is 850 the buzz in Raleigh...I just like the fact that he was not like everyone else...But he will have plenty of options and will more than likely stay with Raycom..He does pretty good outside of TV in his line of work...
