How has no one been talking about this? I live in Chicago, but grew up a packers fan, now a converted Seahawks fan for the last 12 years, but always loved the Packers mainly because of Favre.

Now theres rumors that if he is released he is going to try to talk to the bears, which we all know are in need of a quarterback.

Does anyone else on this board care about this situation?

No - Brett Favre has done this too many times now for me to care what he does.

I don't think the Packers will be giving Favre the unconditional release he is looking for. I think they'll put some stipulations at the very least where he cannot join another team in his division since both the Bears and Vikings obviously would be interested. He made the decision to come back after telling them he was done so they must make a business decision and do what is best for the Packers organization. I don't see any way that it's in their best interest to let him go to a key divisional rival. I don't want to be interested in this after he has toyed with us the past few years but I can't help it. I'm actually hoping he ends up going to my Redskins. They could have a real shot at title contention with Favre at QB.

Brett Favre is in desperate need of an "image consultant". He has managed in 3 short years to transform himself from the ultimate good guy that women want and men want to be into an indecisive, emotionally unstable prima donna. As a Wisconsin native who grew up a Packer fan, it makes me sad, but I certainly think the Packers are doing the right thing in not genuflecting to his ego and scrapping all the work they have done in transitioning to Rogers as their QB. There is no way they should give him his release either.

If I were the Packers I would make him come to camp, list him as the backup QB and tell him he can compete for the starting job while shopping him to teams outside the conference, but I wouldn't trade him for less than value, and I really don't think other teams are going to be willing to give up much for him, knowing they will have to deal with this crap at the end of the year. It seems strange to say that a player who has shattered the all time record for consecutive games played at his position isn't really dependable, but IMHO that is the case.

I hope he gets released and the Ravens sign him. Not sure why just yet, but I just do

The Green Bay Packers' general manager and coach don't plan to grant Brett Favre's request for his release.

If he does rejoin the team, The Associated Press reported, it won't be as the starting quarterback.

And Favre is unlikely to accept a backup role, GM Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy acknowledged Saturday in their first public comments since Favre, 38, demanded his release this week.

Any team that takes Favre knowing he will most likely only play for 1 more year is stupid. Unless you're guaranteed a championship by taking him, which you obviously wouldn't be, you need a long term answer at QB no matter what team you are.

Clearly you did not go to the same school of coaching as Jon Gruden. Long term QB's are stupid and overrated.

i hope they stick him at backup and don't give him a trade, that way he'll retire for real. He needs to become a commentator or coach or something if he wants to stay involved, but this whole 'Im retiring, now im not' thing is ridiculous.

Which makes Baltimore the most viable option. Long term we have Flacco, but a year of developing would surely be useful, especially with a new coaching staff, etc.

In that article it says the Packers aren't going to make him a coach...

i didn't mean with the packers. he needs to completely quit football, and if he decides he still wants to be involved then try to get on as a coach somewhere. for now though he just needs to retire

Has anyone noticed now all the major sports sites have been using the same picture of Farve making the cookie monster face? Can it be any more obvious that they're doing their part to try and make him look bad?

I just read that the Packers may let him compete for the starting job beginning on Tuesday.

Watch a presser from Green Bay at 6:00 on ESPN and ESPNews, could bring some closure... Lots of local Tampa and Milwaukee radio stations are reporting this trade...

Never mind, the press conference is being pushed back and might be canceled.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall during the countless hours of meetings with Favre and McCarthy.
