Harper dropped from WCU football

Former Reynolds High standout Willie Harper was one of two players dismissed from the Western Carolina football team Wednesday.

First-year WCU coach Dennis Wagner told the Citizen-Times that Harper, a running back, and safety Angelo Brown were let go as disciplinary action for the violation of team rules.

The coach also said he dismissed Sam Jackson, an offensive lineman from Pisgah, near the end of the spring semester. Wagner said privacy laws restrict him from giving specific details about the departures. He left the door open for all three to return to the team but said, “these guys have got to do things correctly.”

In February, the Citizen-Times reported that 11 underclassmen, who were part of WCU’s roster at the end of the 2007 season, were no longer on the team.
