In addition to the scuttlebutt over at CoastalFans...I heard from a parent of a Coastal player that Gilmore turned down the Auburn job. That will make it that much more satisfying when we dethrone them next year.
I was just about to post this but figured someone beat me to it...there is no doubt there were a lot of promises to keep him at CCU....this is nothing but great as far as the conference is concerned

I am not quite sure he was ever actually offered the job at Auburn. But he was certainly in the running until the CCU administration apparently stepped up with some promises to invest more in the program. Just think how tough they will be with legitimate facilities and budget.
Cheapest recruiting trip in the BSC...a $3 all day parking pass at the beach

That's what I was going to say. It wasn't Coastal stepping up as much as Auburn not being able to replace his retirement package from the state of SC. Give it a few years once that thing's full (he has his 30 years in) and he'll be gone to go get a huge pay check for a few years and then really retire and be able to live good the rest of his life.
