Come on, the guy finally makes 600 and not a peep?

Honestly, even though I'm a lifelong Tigers fan, this guy is my all-time favorite player. And with all that's come out with steroids, Griffey is the single greatest player of our generation. It's incredible that we still get to watch this guy play and we never hear a word about him. Injuries stole numbers from him, but Ken Griffey Jr. was one of the best baseball players to ever play the game.

Yeah, it’s a shame he got hurt so much in his prime. He was fun to watch. 600 was a mystical number not too long ago, but we’ve had 4 eclipse that number in the past 4-5 years.

Imagine if he would have been completely healthy. He would have certainly eclipsed 700 by now.

Sosa, Bonds, Jr. That's only 3. And I would say, considering the two known cheaters, it is still a VERY exclusive club. Mays, Ruth, Aaron, and Junior? I'd say that's the best of the best. No need to discredit 600, it's not marred...

Uh, Griffey's the third since Hank Aaron, only the sixth ever. And Bonds and Sosa, well, you know about them.

I still think Jr may be one of the best baseball players of all time. He would've proved it if he wouldn't have gotten hurt. It's scary how good he was.

yeah...i agree...i think people forget how good he really is....and he seems to get things done the right way...which is tough to say for a lot of people

Its strange that we posted at the same time.

It's even more strange that we are agreeing.

But it's true. When you ask people years from now who the best home run hitters of the 20th century were, they would say Ruth, Mays, Aaron, and Griffey Jr. Everyone of them for a different reason. Ruth changed the game, and was a radical for his time, hitting more homeruns than most guys could in an entire career, season after season. Mays was a teriffic all around athlete, one of the most complete, if not THE most complete, players ever, and my vote for the best of all time. Aaron was a line drive hitter who barely put it over the fence most of the time, but who learned and worked and persevered over a long career and made a name for himself not only with homeruns, but every other offensive category, and a solid defensive career. And Griffey, the sweetest swing I have ever seen, so smooth, it's like he's not even holding a bat, and that he's not destroying a baseball with that bat. Not to mention his fantastic defense before all the injuries began to take their toll.

I think he's got a few good years left in him, too, which is scary. He could probably hit well at DH in the AL for at least two or three more years.

Sorry, I was thinking for some reason McGwire got 600; I forgot he flamed out around 580. In no way am I saying 600 is not special, it is. I was just stating one of the reasons why people aren’t talking about it as much. If Jr was the first in the past 30 years to get to 600 it would be all over th e news on every station, but it’s not. Sportscenter had a countdown for Bonds to get to 600 when he started at 500. Noone mentioned Jr getting to 600 until spring ball this year.

Well...and part of the reason is because it happened in Miami too...where all of 12 people saw it live.
