Ok I am TOTALLY stealing this from ESPN Radio, but it was a great list. For those who DON"T know Mt Rushmore is where there are the faces of four US presidents carved into the side of a mountain. But since it is Basketball , what FIVE faces would you carve into a HOOPS Mt Rushmore? I have added two other categories as well so there would be like 3 Mt Hoopmores. The NBA is tough, there are so many options that you are BOUND to leave someone off that should be on. The college one may show some conference bias for some, and the Small school to NBA one takes some realy hoops nerdery. Have fun and here are my categories and lists. They don't have to be one player per position, you can have 5 centers if you want, just pick five
NBA:
Oscar Robertson - Mr Triple Double
MJ - Even without the refs help, he was pretty good!
Bill Russell - Titles as a player and coach and player/coach
Dr J - The Afro and "normalization" of the Dunk
George Mikan - They made the lane wider for him (and then again for Wilt) and he was the first superstar and post player.
I know, no Magic, Bird, Wilt, or Kareem, but what can you do, there is only so much!
College: (GREAT College players, maybe not so great Pro Players)
Pete Maravich - 30+ a game average w/out the 3 point line. No Brainer
Ralph Sampson - 3 Time Player of the Year
Steve Alford - The epitome of a college player
Lew Alcindor - UCLA Dynasty, He caused Rules to be changed.
Christian Laetner - All time winningest NCAA Tournament player
Left off - Thompson - NC State, Walton - UCLA, Robinson - Navy
SMALL COLLEGE (Preferable non D 1 4 year schools but small D1 ok)
Jerome Kersey - Longwood
Terry Porter - Wisconsin Stevens Point
Scottie Pippen - Cent Arkansas
Dennis Rodman - Cant remeber
Ben Wallace - Viginia Union
Left off - Kevin Duckworth, Jack Sickma
