Coming into the game today against Atlanta, Jay Bruce was 11-19 (.579) with a homer, 4 RBI's, 8 runs scored, and two steals. He has a game winning run, and a game winning homer in two of his first 5 games, and just homered against the Braves for the second of his career, and he sits at 12-21. Has there ever been a hotter start to an MLB career than this? Kid is amazing!

FR is correct, and 84 is wrong, again.

August 17, Buchholz went 6 innings against the Angels, 4 runs, 3 of them earned, and got the win.

His second start was the no hitter, one of four appearances that year.

I thought it was his first, my bad. He did have a 3-1 record with a 1.59 ERA last year. I think that's as hot as Bruce.

But Jered Weaver blows Bruce out of the water so far for me. A 1.15 era for his first seven starts in 2006 with a 7-0 record and 40 strikeouts. Allowed 5 hits or less to win his first 7 starts. His ERA didn't go above 2.50 until his last start of the season, and he started 19 games that year to finish with a 2.56 ERA with an 11-2 record and 105 strikeouts in 123.0 innings pitched.

Zach DUke started out even hotter than Weaver. Had a 0.92 ERA through six games (5 starts) in 2005. Struck out 29 in those six starts and had a 4-0 record. FInished the season playing 13 games with a 1.81 ERA, 58 strikouts, 8-2 record in 84.2 IP

Felix Hernandez in 2005 had a 1.59 era through 7 starts, striking out 50 in 51 innings with a 3-2 record.

Brandon Webb 2003: 2.45 ERA through 20 games (1.61 through 5) with a 7-5 record adn 120 strikeouts in 96.2 IP. Allowed more than five hits in just 8 of those starts.

I was just observing his good start.

I saw him play in high school and as a lifelong Reds fan (albeit in remission) I have been stoked to see what he has done thus far. He has the potential to be one of the game's greats in the next few years. Or he could flame out ... one way or the other the Reds have been blessed with young talent the past couple of seasons with Josh Hamilton (yeah, I realize he wasn't that young) and Edinson this year (thanks Rangers).

Jay Bruce is clearly looking good so far, but staying power is what matters now. Will he keep hitting well (well like .290 or better well) or will he start batting below the Mendoza line? If he keeps hitting well, he needs to get out of Cincinnati and go to a real team outside of Ohio. Why outside of Ohio? because I know a coach from Ohio that likes all the Ohio teams and I will loath him to the grave and thus have grown to hate all Ohio teams so I want to see all Ohio teams fail immensely, sorry Sly lol
