No kidding. Its one thing to get that top seed but another to land the regional. Clearly they have earned some national respect.

They have not necessarily garnered the top seed yet...they may host as a number 2 seed. A few years ago Coastal went to ASU (I believe) as a number 1 seed with the number 2 seed actually hosting.

I doubt very seriously Coastal would have garnered the hosting duties without also getting a top seed.

Yeah...mid-majors typically don't get to host unless they're the number one seed. However, stranger things have happened.

"The 2008 NCAA Baseball Tournament Field was announced Monday and the Tar Heels -- the No. 2 overall seed -- will host a regional that also includes UNC-Wilmington, Elon and Mount St. Mary's. Play begins Friday in Cary."

"The Cary Regional champion will advance to face the winner of the Conway (S.C.) Regional in the Super Regional round for the right to advance to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb."

Nope. They're that good. The only thing that's possibly stunning is that they can host it on campus because that park is small. Other than that, they deserve it.

Why should we be stunned by Coastal as a One-seed? They have a great RPI and played a killer schedule outside of the conference.

and they have beaten some of those OOC teams. UNC for example. CCU whipped UNC earlier in the season. they also beat UVA on the road

Like SJ said, I'm stunned they can host it on their campus b/c their stadium is small, but I'm not stunned by the #1 seed...Coastal has a very good baseball program and earned the right to be a #1 seed and host. The rest of the Big South needs to step it up and bring the league back to 2 or more bids.

Chants improve to 50-12 on the season by winning all three of its games this weekend. A thirteen run 2nd inning last night paved the road to Cary, as Coastal will meet UNC for the right to go to Omaha. All gave should be on one of the ESPN family of networks.
