Look I know that I am opening myself up for a lot of mouth with this post, but what is new or surtprising about that. Say what you want about Phillip Rivers, but he is just flat out a tough winner (25-7 as a starter). Read this article, the dude is a beast. Who cares that he is mouthy, that just means he is a real competetor. He is a real leader with the toughness and skill to pull it off. This will be his break out year.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/s ... id=3379779 Phillip Rivers is my Hero!

By the way, this is the year where the Chargers are a big factor for the Super Bowl. The Schedule falls right, and the new additions will make this team very dominant. Florence and Cromartie are the best Tandem in the league at cutting down Vertical YAC http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/insider/ ... id=3374798. I love Caison and the other 2 new corners, and Hart and Weddle in the middle will be tough too. Merriman, and Phillips will again kill QBs all over. Both O & D lines are stacked and stocked. With Chambers, Jackson, Davis, Eric Parker coming back, and Gates; Rivers has a ton of great targets. L.T. will be back to form again and I love the addition of Jacob Hester. Watch out for the Chargers

Another good one:

You know what UMD fans call him? PhiLLLLip Rivers, because he went 0-4 against them.

anyway, he's more than mouthy. He's a dbag. That televised game against the Broncos last year pretty much showed who he is to the world. A jerk.

So let's see, his teammates absolutely love a Big Jerk?!?!?!

OH yea and there is a big difference between the team he played with at NC State and the personnel on this Chargers team.

What qualifies one as a dbag?

i thought last year was the year!! knuckle you just seem to always welcome a beating. let's see 25-7 as a starter 2-1 in the playoffs zero super bowls and conference championships. he also started running his mouth...the wrong idea for someone who is a supposed leader. and your comment of
Who cares that he is mouthy, that just means he is a real competetor is just hilarious. does tom brady or peyton manning run their yap??? no.... did the greats like montana, elway, bradshaw, staubach, etc. run their mouths??? no. they were effective leaders without acting like an idiot. rivers was not like this at NC State. no doubt he is a hard-nosed gamer, but is he really a winner?? what has he really done? statistically he was great at NCSU, and has put up OK numbers in the NFL, but he has a ways to go to be a "great leader". again i have no problem with the fact that you are a true charger fan...you bleed it, but cmon man being optimistic and being crazy are two different things!

Smooth, I can take it better than anyone. Take your best shot. I don't care. I've been through lean and good waiting for great. I think every year is the one and this one is no different. So what I love my team and most of the players on it. Philip will quiet all the detractors AGAIN this year. The shame is it will never be good enough for some of you guys. He is a very good QB and I'm glad we got him and not Eli. Again his Super Bowl will come so I'm not worried about that.

Keep waiting. To this point, Rivers has gained more detractors than he quieted and as long as his mouth is possessed by the ghost of Ryan Leaf, that's not going to change. You may be glad that you have him instead of Eli, but -- unlike Rivers -- Eli actually beat the Patriots last year.
