2008 Gardner-Webb Football Schedule
  • Aug. 28 - at Tennessee Tech
    Sept. 6 - TUSCULUM
Sept. 13 - at Austin Peay
Sept. 27 - SAM HOUSTON STATE
    Oct. 4 - at Charleston Southern *
Oct. 11 - at Georgia Tech
    Oct. 18 - PRESBYTERIAN
    Oct. 25 - VMI *
    Nov. 1 - at Stony Brook *
    Nov. 8 - COASTAL CAROLINA *
    Nov. 15 - at Liberty *

Could be a very good year for the Runnin' Bulldogs...probably lose to Tennessee Tech, GT, Coastal and us. Sam Houston State at home is winnable for them, and lets hope they're not sleeping in Stony Brook.[/b]

Rhett Bomar and the Bearkats will be a tough home date for the Bulldogs. But this is the first time I can remember G-W not loading up on money games. They have just the one trip to GT. I'm sure Bobby Bentley smiled when he saw the schedule.

Once again I see them as our primary challenger this fall.

That's just dumb. They weren't a challenger at all last year, lose their best defender and if I'm not mistaken quarterback as well. Coastal brings in a QB from WFU plus Childers and returns some good RBs, their whole OL, and most of their defense. If you don't think Coastal will be our main challenger then you've been keeping up with a different Big South than I have.

:exactly

Plus, add to the fact that GW comes to Lynchburg, where we haven't lost in almost 2 years, and we have to go to the beach. So, if the 2 teams were on an even playinjg field, that fact alone tips the balance in Coastal's favor.

Gardner-Webb paints their grass to make it look alive and their press box/football offices are held together by duct tape. They may look decent on paper, but really, when have they ever competed on a year long basis with anyone good?

G-W's All-Time Big South Record:
Code: Select all
2002 Gardner-Webb 9–1 3-0 1st
2003 Gardner-Webb 8–4 4-0 1st
2004 Gardner-Webb 5–6 2-2 3rd
2005 Gardner-Webb 5–6 2-2 3rd
2006 Gardner-Webb 6–5 2-2 3rd
2007 Gardner-Webb 5–6 2-2 3rd
Yes it has been five years but it would not be unprecedented for them to challenge once again. And of course they could've had a piece of the league title a year ago if they hadn't been popped by us down in Boiling Spring. Of course I believe we will win the title but I also believe G-W will be as good if not better than CCU this fall.

I say again, when have they ever competed with anyone good? Liberty was terrible then and Coastal was just starting. Since Coastal got good, G-W hasn't finished higher than third. With Liberty and Coastal both good, there's no way they do now.

The same could be said of CCU. Again this is all conjecture.

Except CCU has won the league more times, finished higher last year, and has better talent returning.

Who on the CCU roster has any connection to past league titles? G-W should be more competitive in league play this fall by not getting destroyed every week in non-conference. And you act as if the Chants didn't have to rally in the 4th quarter to squeak by G-W last fall at Brooks by 3.

That wasn't your question. You asked who had a connection. That's a pretty large list.
