Lets face it, Tech wasn't going to make a big run in the NCAA field of 64 and UVA would have died slowly in the NIT. So is it better that they both inded up with home games in easier tourneys (Tech + NIT #! seed, and UVA in the 1st CBI)?

I think They both have a good chance to make some positive noise in these 2 tourneys that fit their skill much better!

you mean a better deal as in what they deserved? Yes.

I mean more managable for hem to be somewhat successful instead of totally humiliated a step up!

Missing out the Big Dance is not a better deal no matter how it gets spun. The NIT is post-season exhibition games.

Yes. It's that simple.

Coaches get fired for missing the NCAA's. Nobody keeps their job for making the NIT. Case in point: Pete Gillen.

I think you missed the point of the thread!

The CBI is actually somewhat intriguing to me. Exhibitions games? Yes. NBA auditions? Yes. Filling the gap between NCAA weekends? Absolutely.

The NIT has lost even more of its lustre (if that is possible).

No, I didn't. The question posed was "Is this a better deal for UVa and Tech?" I'm answering with an unequivocal "No." It doesn't matter how well they might do in these other glorified AAU tournaments, the answer is still "no".

I've gotta agree that it is never a good thing to miss the NCAAs. Sure both teams have a better shot at winning in their respective tournaments but that's not really the point. The NIT is a joke as I'm sure the CBI will be. No matter if you get blown out in the first round of the NCAAs, it's still a major upgrade over the other "tournaments".

Is this a step down? I would say so. Although I am intrigued by the CBI as Sly is (particularly the Championship series concept)

i have always thought the NIT was pointless....and this new CBI is even more pointless....

it may be pointless, but it is postseason hoops, and it helps for getting ready for next year. you can tell about the teams who care because they play hard rather than the teams that are upset about being snubbed.

I think the CBI is great for UVA because they we're not ready for anything higher than that. This gives them a chance to be successful and build for next year. I think the NIT is good now for VT so they can get mad and we can see if they can really play or not!

So the ACC tournament wasn't good enough? They were saving it for the NIT? Come on.

And UVa is a train wreck these days. You're right in that they aren't ready for anything higher than the CBI. Unfortunately, that also includes the ACC regular season.
