Hansbrough's Jersey to be Retired
By Inside Carolina Staff
Posted Mar 11, 2008
Tyler Hansbrough has been named the National Player of the Year by The Sporting News, which ensures his jersey will be retired at the conclusion of his college career.
"It truly is something special to have accomplished," Hansbrough said in a statement. "In fact, it's kind of hard to sit here and talk about how it feels to be put in the same category as the players who are up there already."
Antawn Jamison, unanimous national player of the year in 1998, was the last Tar Heel to have his jersey retired.
"There will never be another one just like him," North Carolina coach Roy Williams said in a statement. "I am so lucky to be his coach. For the rest of my career, I will be able to look up into that first row and see his jersey ... and I know that will bring a big smile to my face."

Unfortunately I think it'l be an NBA jersey, especially if they win a championship! What a great deserved honor for Tyler. He is so fun to watch, what a player!

I hope they retire the one that's covered in blood and bits of Gerald Henderson's elbow flesh.

I don't know. It's not like his family is hurting for money. If he's enjoying college and living off his surgeon daddy's money, why not stay in college another year?

Good for him. He deserves it.
However, I sure hope he is somewhere else next year. I now know what it feels like for all non-Duke fans who hated JJ Redick.

It's actually beside the National Championship banner from 2005... When is the last time Dook won one?

In basketball? 2001. In taking your mom to a nice seafood dinner and never calling her again? Two days ago.

by all indiciations I have seen, hansbrough is a borderline first round pick at best. he may be the national player of the year, but he's an undersized nba power forward who players below the rim...

Actually, Tyler doesn't throw up "shocker" signs. In fact, he doesn't really say anything at all....he just goes out there & plays.
Plus, his teammates like being around him...on & off the court.

I see someone's been reading their UNC Media Guide. I understand that "Psycho T" also enjoys puppies, kittens and singing Christmas carols to the homeless.

Actually, I spent time talking to some of the guys that ref ACC games.
JJ talked a lot of trash to opposing players & fans. Yet, he couldn't handle it when it was dished back at him. Did some of the things fans said to him cross the line? Absolutely. Did his most of his teammates wish he wasn't there? Absolutely. JJ brought a lot of what happened on himself.
Tyler doesn't get into with the fans...he doesn't come on national TV talking about how he is treated by opposing fans & how he thinks its unfair. He just plays....hard.

Are your friends teammates?...because that's who I was referring to. I think we, as a general public, could all name celebrities or prominent figures that acted horrible towards us, at some point in time. I was talking more about the people that hang out with him everyday.

you made him sound like the nicest guy on earth who is the complete opposite of JJ, so i was just pointing out that he's not.
thats good that his teammates like him.. they should. without him they would suck

Oh, okay...I gotcha.
Yeah, I'm sure he's not perfect. He doesn't have those "angelic eyes."

I don't really have a cat in this fight...but I have a feeling if JJ had played for UNC then the tables would be turned completely....
