Dude was 32-96 over 5 seasons. Resigning was the least he could do for that program.

Incidentally, for some interesting reading, search for John Swickrath quotes at http://www.thinkexist.com.

the most baffling part of the story is that he was a head coach for 5 years. how in the world does he even last that long??

“I can't coach, but it's ok, it's my players fault, they're just not producing."

Best quote!!! Awesome

About time. Long overdue.

In all seriousness, I wonder if that is something RD would consider since he's still in the area and his daughter has a couple more years of HS?

LC is probably the worst job in the ODAC. if RD wants that gig he is seriously smoking tree.

Listen...he has shown he can turn around a program. I do not see the absurdity in the idea. With his local ties...and the local talent in HS hoops...he can certainly raise the level of hoops to at least middle of the pack. It will be hard to get the program to Guilford, VWC or RMC levels...but certainly in the 4-6 range is do-able.

I was wondering how long it would take for that to be brought up. I do agree that it is an interesting idea, but not sure how feasible. Not sure what LC pays. As for turning the program around, I don't think it would take all that much. I know on the women's side they have done a good job climbing the ODAC ladder and they had a nice string of victories during the year. Now BASEBALL, Lord KNOWS they need to find better talent!! :D

It wouldn't be a bad job if the AD would hire a person who can COACH for once. this school hasn't hired a good men's basketball in nearly 30 years now. With the talent Swickrath has brought in the past three years there is absolutely no excuse at all for them winning just 12 games in that timespan. It's one thing being poor at X's and O's, it's another thing when you are such a bad coach/person that people quit playing basketball because you make them lose all desire to want to play. Heck, I was a manager there for four years and nearly quit after two because I was sick of his idiocy.

Here's evidence of how poor of a retention rate he has:
*Prior to this year, he has had 34 freshmen, and unless more quit before next season, only 12 stayed for 3 or more seasons. Of the 22 that quit, every single one of them said they quit because of Swickrath
*He brought in 7 freshmen this season, and 2 of those quit during the season because of Swickrath.
*Several current underclassmen were going to transfer or quit if there wasn't a coaching change.

If you hire a coach who couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag, your team is going to be bad regardless of what kind of talent you bring in. If you hire a good coach who can recruit, you can turn a program around. The LC women's team had an OK at best coach for years then he resigned and they now have a good coach and she's turned that program around in just 3 years. It's as simple as that.

Imagine if Liberty had hired a bunch of scrub coaches for 30 years. LU would be consistently losing all the time and that job wouldn't be looked at as a good job either.

Right now it's sounding like there are going to be a ton of good coaches to choose from. A former assistant coach that everyone from players, the coaching staff, and others within the athletic department at LC viewed as a good coach wants it. A current penn st. assistant coach wants it (he's from Lynchburg and played at Roanoke College). The Head boys coach at VES wants it. Those are three high quality candidates I have heard of, so there are going to be good coaches to choose from, rather LC actually chooses one of the good ones is a different story. If the right people are on the hiring committee then I firmly believe we will, however, if we don't use a proper committee then we'll have another bad coach and more years of embarrasment. Maybe they'll learn their less but who knows...

I wouldn't believe any of that. It's like wikipedia, anyone can go on there and put whatever they want...

I could go on there now and submit this: Tyler Baker is the worst basketball player to ever exist in the history of the University - by TBGBGBGBG

True? Nope, but I can submit it anyways rather it's true or not.
