It is the goal of the Christian Defense Coalition to help ESPN realize the negative use of "Jesus Christ" and "Goddamn" in the workplace is as offense and hateful as using the term "nigger" in the workplace....

I probably wouldn't protest it, but if I owned a business myself I would crack down on the use of racial epithets, cursing and so forth. I find all of it offensive, but that's what society has become.

Isn't the meaning of goddamn the same as dang? Both were used when asking God to condemn something to hell or to pass judgment, right? I don't understand why it's considered so much more offensive. I think people misinterpret it as damning God when in fact it is asking God to pass judgment on a particular thing. Granted, neither dang nor goddamn are commonly used in this way anymore but I believe that's where the origin is. Anybody want to clear this up?

I see it as blasphemy - using God's name as a swear word.

I don't even know why an organization called the Christian Defense Coalition exists. Jesus TOLD his disciples and those who thought about becoming disciples what they would be getting into. God in his three persons IS the Christian defense coalition. The psalms tell us that the mouths of the scoffers will be stopped, so why get riled up about it? Such "advocacy" groups are pointless and their incessant protests of everything from Disneyland to ESPN to Harry Potter make all of us look terrible. While I think that God's name is used too frequently, thus degrading its holiness, or separateness, I think getting riled up and calling for protests when pagans profane it is a little unnecessary. I bet the CDC won't ever call for a protest or boycott against a business run by a Christian who profanes God's name, so there's obviously a double standard.

Seriously, though, I have a ton of respect for the way Jews keep God's name holy. They won't even say YHWH, but instead say Adon [Lord] or, even better, Ha'shem [the Name]. I think that should be an example to all of us.
