VMI has big signing day

By Katrina Waugh

Seven months before the opening snap of the 2008 football season, VMI has already pulled off an upset.

The Keydets lost their head coach to warmer waters just two weeks ago, and still managed to draw their largest signing day class of recruits in recent memory.

Nineteen players, including Zach Webb of Bedford, signed letters-of-intent to come to VMI in the fall, the school announced Wednesday.

"What a great recruiting job," said director of athletics Donny White. "I don't know when we've ever had so many recruits on signing day."

There have been larger classes at VMI, but not on the first day.

very nice, and a good job by the staff to hold the class together despite jim reid leaving for the NFL.

Frankly it didn't appear to hurt them at all.

With the letters signed, it gives the school more time to hire Reid's replacement. They've already pushed back Spring ball.
