ESPN recently suspended Jacobson (who is Jewish) for one week[1] in light of unscripted comments she made about Notre Dame at the roast of Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic in Atlantic City.[2]

Jacobson was criticized by several Catholic advocacy groups including the Catholic League for her characterizations of Jesus and the University of Notre Dame football program. An intoxicated Jacobson reportedly appeared on stage drinking a bottle of vodka and said, "**** Notre Dame," "****Touchdown Jesus," and "**** Jesus."[3] ESPN followed up with a statement said to have been received from Jacobson:
“I am sorry. My remarks about Notre Dame were foolish and insensitive. I respect all religions and did not mean anything derogatory by my poorly chosen words. I also deeply regret the embarrassment I've caused ESPN and Mike and Mike.

My actions at the roast were inappropriate and in no way represent who I am. I won't make excuses for my behavior, but I do hope I can be forgiven for such a poor lack of judgment.”

No video of the incident has been released.

I just saw ESPN announce this on Sports Center...while I'm glad the FINALLY addressed a mistake made by ESPN or a ESPN employee I'm wondering if they will continue to talk about things like this. There way to many people that just disappear from ESPN b/c of sexual harassment or other reasons and they never talk about it b/c they dont have to, there arent other media outlets as big as them that can expose them....although I think Deadspin and other sites like that are causing them to have to now think about these things

Yeah, espn's ombudsman has never caused anything to change there. And it's usually someone who's just as liberal as the network, so the complaints are always so minor, anyway.

my favorite part about this story though is Charlie Weis was there! HAHAHAHA I'm sure he's heard that a few times after last season though!

Don't watch anything with Kathy Griffin....it will just make you want to punch her in the face.....

Actually, I usually wind up punching myself when I watch her. In one of those "Why am I watching this garbage" moments.

I dont know how many of you get ESPN Magazine (24 issues for 12 bucks, you all should!) but one of my favorite things EVER is on the next to last page they always will make a parody about current events in sports and last football season they did one of Touchdown Jesus covering his eyes while they were playing on the field...it was great...I laughed hard

I'm glad some action was taken, but can you imagine what the fallout would have been if she said "F*** homo's" or "F*** blacks!"?

And by the way, as offensive as "F*** Jesus!" is to me, if saying it means being suspended from the airwaves, I'd give Stephen A. Smith money to say it.

Well the roast was in AC....i mean really if Golic was offended he needs to get off the nutrisystem and grow a pair again.

yes it was a roast and that's how those things go, it was not televised, but when you say **** Jesus, that is a bit over the line. ms. jacobson is an employee of ESPN, and being in the public eye you cannot make statements like that and expect not to get reprimanded.

FYI if she'd of said "**** Allah!" she would of been fired...

The funny thing is how they're trying to sweep this under the rug by repeatedly saying that she made offensive remarks about notre dame (which nobody really cares about), but making no reference to the fact that she said anything about Jesus, which is the only reason she got suspended. If you say something enough times publicly, that makes it so. If you silence something enough, it never happened.

Censorship at a roast...sounds a bit odd. I know it offended a ton of people but come on...

Dana was offensive, but I think what is also offensive is the fact that Mike Golic and Mike Greenburg were being roasted.

It doesn't matter if it was aired or not. She still has a responsibility to be professional. She is representing ESPN. I for one am deeply offended by her comments. I also emailed ESPN to voice my concern about it.

So? Are you saying that Michael Vick shouldn't be suspended by the NFL for his role in a dogfighting gambling ring? He didn't commit the felony while on the field... I'm pretty sure those dogfights were roped off to the public and were 'private ceremonies', too.

I understand that what was said was offensive. Very much so. It's just the fact that the nobody that wasn't there should have ever known about it that bothers me. If something offensive is said in a semi-private setting it shouldn't become public knowledge. If somebody made an off-color remark at a meeting at LU, would it be right for the media to jump on the story? I know that they would take it and run with it, but would that make it right? Have you ever seen any of the roasts on Comedy Central? Her remarks seem tame compared to some things I've heard from Sarah Silverman and Lisa Lampanelli.
