Yeah, I've read some columnists who say the same thing in pro ball. They blame it on the influx of Euro players into the NBA, who play the game like they're playing soccer (that is, flopping around and acting like a general pansy. Go check out Manu Ginobili.)

Flopping is nothing new. Players have been flopping in all sports for as long as there have been sports. Because it works.

True, I just think its more prevalent these days.

And Duke having pansy-whiners on their team is nothing new, either.

Ok so those NBA'rs are either floppers or street thugs. Or both. They are all bed wettin momma's boys! No one plays hurt in the NBA.

The NBA at least has the No-Flop zone underneath the basket. It's a start.

yeah the nba has its fair share as well...but as luconn pointed out they've at least done something...

the nba has told its refs to try to stop rewarding flops, and from the Orlando Magic games I have watched I have seen some improvement in that...but I think its something that is impossible to eliminate simply because some guys are just so good at it...

but flopping is one of the most annoying things in sports to me...no matter the sport....its the weak man's out, and it annoys the crap out of me

I saw a pretty good flop during the LU/CCU game on Monday. I'm fairly certain it was just a makeup call since we had just gotten a similar shaft at the other end, but I still was a little peeved that we did that.

I didn't think that video showed too much. Google or do a youtube search on soccer flops. Those are pathetic. NFL punters and NHL players are also notorious for horrible flops.

If there is contact, I have no problem with a guy going down. It is just part of the game. Flopping can be out of control, but that video was far from out of control IMO. The refs even made calls against Duke for some of the flops. That is the quickest way to stop a flopper in basketball, call a few fouls against them on flops and they usually stop.

At least the NHL penalizes for flopping. Maybe the NBA should do the same.

Calling a foul on the flopper would solve the problem very quickly. He may get away with a few, but his reputation would follow him from arena to arena. If a professional ref cannot tell the difference between a flop and a real foul (at least 80% of the time, there are some good actors out there), than the refs need better training. (of course the biggest NBA floppers are usually the top players, so I doubt they would do anything that might take that player prematurely off the court)
