Who Wins?

I'm picking Green Bay, but Reluctantly as Seattle will have Favre running and/or on his back all day!

I picked GB but really its going to come down to the running game. If Ryan Grant can play like he has of late, I think Favre will have a lot more time to throw to Jennings, Driver Jones and Martin and they win this game easily. If Alexander and Morris do well and Seattle shuts down GBs run game, the Seahawks win

In the battle of two teams renowned for choking away the big moment, I'm taking Seattle for no good reason.

green bay has the best run D in the nfl if you go by scoring, which matters more to me than yards: allowed only 6 rushing TDs all season.

Did someone just find the "stats" tab on espn.com? Really dude, you pull a ton of stuff out of context.

A team could give up 6 rushing TD's but a ton of passing TD's, and that doesn't mean they have a good rushing D, that means they have a horrible passing D and people pass against them.

Overall Scoring Defense is an important stat, but not run or pass specific scoring stats. Those are next to meaningless.

There weren't many TD's against the Raiders passing last year, because everyone KNEW they could run and run well against them.

That didn't mean they had a good Pass D, just a horrible Run D.

Green Bay has a great pass D, Charles Woodson has made a great comeback with them. They get after the passer really well, with Kampman.

However, it's not like they are the best against the run, you just so happened to find a stat like that and decide to drop it on us. The Saints only gave up 7 Rushing TD's, and they are NOT a good defense at all.

Who do they play that has a running back?

Their Division:

Bears: Nope
Lions: Nope

That's 4 games with no running backs.

They did a good job keeping the Vikings out of the End Zone, I will give them that.

But they give up 103 Yards per game on the ground, and over 200 in the air. That's not a superb defense.

The Seahawks actually give up the same amount of yards per carry. Plus, the Seahawks have been passing more this year with Alexander Struggling and the line not performing up to par. (The Hawks have as many touchdowns in the Air as the Pack, with fewer INT's)

All signs point to the Hawks being a better team.

Following players have had 100 yards or more agianst the Pack: Adrian Peterson of the vikings, steven jackson, and adrian peterson (bears version)

Good running backs held to less than 100: Brian Westbrook, Ladanian Tomlinson, Larry Johnson, Kevin Jones, Deshawn Foster, Adrian Peterson (vikings version), Marion Barber.

THe following QBs had 250 yards or more agianst the Pack: Phillip Rivers (306), Kelly Holcomb (258), Jay Cutler (264), Tony Romo (309)

Following QBs had two or more TDs against the Pack: Phillip Rivers (3), Brian Griese, Damon Huard (who also had 2 INTs), Vinny Testaverde (also had 2 INTs), Tony Romo (4)

Packers were 6th in scoring defense in the regular season, only 11th in yardage defense but yards don't win you games and that's better than the Seahawks, held teams to 33% on 3rd down conversions (seattle 38%), held teams to only 69 converted third downs (seattle 88 ), 18.6 1st downs per game (17.4 for seattle), seattle forced 14 more fumbles than green bay, but only recovered 5 more than the Pack, seattle had 9 more sacks, seattle only had one more INT than the pack.

Offense now:
Green Bay had the 4th highest scoring offense, Seattle 9th. Green bay 2nd in yards per game, Seattle 9th. Green bay 19.2 1st downs per game, seattle 20.2. reen bay 43% on third downs, seattle 35%. green bay time of possession 30:19, seattle 29:59. green bay lost 9 fumbles, seattle lost 11. green bay TO differential +4, seattle +10. green bay 66.3 passing%, seattle 62.%. green bay 270.9 pass ayrds, seattle 247.8. green bay 17 completions of 40+ yards, seattle with 8. Green Bay sacked 19 times, seattle 36 times. green bay QB rating of 95.9, seattle rating of 91.8.

green bay 99.8 rush yards per game (remember, RYan Grant didn't emerge until midway through the season), seattle 101.2 per game. green bay also 2.7 less rush attempts a game. seattle 3.8 yards a carry, green bay 4.1. green bay 12 13 rush tds, seattle 9. green bay also has 19 rushes of 20-40+, seattle has 12.

green bay ahs 31 field goals made, seattle 28. seattle 82% on field goals, green bay 80%. punt and kick returns are about even, excpet seattle has 2 kick returns for TDs while green bay has zero; green bay has 2 punt returns for a TD while seattle has one.

So basically, the Packers can shut down good running backs, they can play good pass defense, they can run the ball well, and they can pass the ball with the best of them, and their special teams aren't too shabby either. Overall, the stats show me that the Pack are better.

Are those stats in context enough for you?

green bay has a great rush defense. thier pass D is middle of the road. other than chicago and a johnsonless kc they've faced teams with really good runners....

their problem? you can pass on them and seattle has technically long abandoned the run. they still use it for play action reasons but they are going to probably pass 50 times this weekend....and they will score....

seattle is allwoing less than 1 passing td per game. say its because of their conference but they are good. they are also just as good as greenbay in the run defense category...

grant has been studly but i think he'll find trouble getting going.

this game is catered vary well to the seahawks, they won't be at home but they ahve a defense that can hold the packers, and the packers pass defense will probably get torched. hass will throw a few picks but so will favre...

i go seattle in this one...its my only upset...

I stopped reading as soon as you said that.

The difference between the Bucs and the Patriots/Colts/Jags is that the first team doesn't produce yards. The other three do produce yards.

All have good defenses. All have QB's who don't turn the ball over often. All have a decent to good running game. Just, the Bucs don't move the ball down the field, and the other teams, do.

final prediction: Green Bay 21 Seattle 17

just an fyi.

look for seattle to come out running 3 and 4 wr sets... gb is dead last in the league vs 3rd and 4th wide recievers....

packers are playing the worst football out of any playoff team i've seen all season, and that includes the regular season.

the snow didn't start coming down really heavy until after seattle scored the first two TDs...

Well 80% of us FFers had this one Pegged. Green Bay moves on in an impressive display 42-20.

i completely forgot to factor in the weather....a team with no run game can't possibly win with that kind of weather...
