If you want to talk ASUN smack or ramble ad nauseum about your favorite pro or major college teams, this is the place to let it rip.

No, because they are the hottest and best team in the country right now. If there was a playoff they would be champs.

i think in the end, there will be around 4 or 5 teams who can lay claim to it...

georgia, mizzou, usc, oklahoma (if they route WV), VT even, and the winner of the osu/lsu game...

great job bcs...

In my mind, Georgia and Missouri have no right to "claim" a national title because they didn't win their conference. If you're not the best team in your conference, then you can't be the best in the nation.

conference win's don't matter much to me....its not like its a formal tournament most of the time

georgia didn't play lsu ( i think they'd win btw) and tennesee didn't really belong...they just happen to beat georgia...

mizzou, i guess you are right but still, #6 in the nation and they destroyed arkansas...

Conference play gives you the right to claim you are the best in your conference, Georgia and Mizzou didn't do that. Saying Tennessee didn't belong isn't correct because they had to beat Georgia to get there.

The only way a team that is not a conference champion can claim to be a legit national title contender is if the top 2 teams are from the same conference. This year, there is about 5 or 6 teams that are "the best."

Right now, I don't think anyone can beat SC, but then again we will never know. I guess that is why they play the games, would like to see a playoff, but don't see it as long as the bowl situation is so profitable for the schools.

That's the dumbest thing I've heard in a while. You must hate college basketball then. And college baseball. And pretty much every sport besides football.

No I love college basketball. March Madness is the best sporting event in all of sports. I've never really followed college baseball until coming to Liberty.

I don't see how it's a dumb rationale. In the current setup of the BCS, which tries to award teams for regular season play, you shouldn't be able to win or "claim" a national title if you don't win your conference. If there was a playoff that would be different just like with basketball and all other sports with tournaments. Right now, FBS doesn't have a playoff, so you should have to win your conference to be a national champion.

You didn't say that in your first post. If you did, I wouldn't have said it was dumb. The whole, "under the current system" part completely changes the way you look at it.

yeah my arguement is "in light of the current system"...but i thought that was common knowledge that the entire system is stupid...

What if an undefeated team (with a difficult schedule) loses in the conference championship and everybody else had 2 or 3 losses? They didn't win the conference but surely they'll be in the championship.

That's a valid argument. I don't know what would happen then. It depends on the other teams, I'm sure there would be 2 other teams who are conference champions that would have the right to play for the championship.

Also, let's not forget that many times when you lose your last game you would fall out of the top 2 spots.

I just see that as a prerequisite right now the way things are set up. Sure, it could happen that a team that doesn't win their conference wins the national championship, but in my mind it shouldn't. If there was a playoff, certainly I would feel different.

USC lost to Stanford.

Stanford.

Stanford.

Stanford.

Just keep repeating it. You can't beat a 41-point dog at home, you have no right to be in the conversation for the national title.

exactly....USC may be playing the best football right now...which is debatable...but in the crappy system we have at the moment they don't deserve it....but it just shows that freaking playoff is needed

It's the same arguement for March Madness. The team playing the best basketball at the time normally is crowned national champions. Very rarely do the best team win the whole thing.
