Yeah, I don't see Tampa being any better than Jacksonville. Supposedly, there was a conflict in Charlotte for 2008.

yep...in the article, some convention scheduled in advance.

geographically its not any better that is for sure...but Tampa is a much better city then Jacksonville...

by 2010-2011 Orlando will have a refurbished Citrus Bowl...and one of the main reasons they are doing so is in hopes of landing the ACC championship....Jacksonville doesn't know how to put on events...so this is no surprise really.

Charlotte, Atlanta, & DC, geographically are the best choices.

I went to the game this year (freebies). Stadium wasnt even half full.

Trust me, Tampa will put on a championship game alot better then Jax, remember Tampa has had a couple of Superbowls, they will promote the game better then Jax.

Jax has had a Super Bowl as well...but a Super Bowl sells itself...you could have it in the middle of nowhere and it would have no problem selling out....but the ACC Championship is different...if you aren't going to put it in a central located city then you are going to have to find a city that has good leaders that know how to handle people...Tampa is a decent place...but I have seen some preliminary draw-ups of the refurbished Citrus Bowl, and its going to be a very nice complex...and Orlando is use to have people come in go for big events since they have the biggest convention center in the country...second largest in the world...and trust me that thing is huge and brings in tons of people....so they know how to handle large events...

I guess Tampa/the ACC is hoping Florida State will return to the title game or Miami will step it up in the Coastal Division these next couple of years.

It's the ACC conference. that's why the stands are empty; SEC is a different beast. Coaches for the NFL are jumping ship to be part of this incredible league

Part of the issue too is that the ACC championship and Gator Bowl are a huge conflict ... the Gator Bowl essentially loses a choice of team for its bowl because it knows the ACC title game loser won't travel back to Jacksonville a second time in a month. At least in Tampa the ACC has no ties to the Outback Bowl.

but partially true.....

you will never hear a true ACC fan say their football brand is better than the SEC. the SEC is the best conference in college football. when the game gets to charlotte it will sell out. orlando may have a refurbished citrus bowl stadium soon, but it will not draw much better than jacksonville. atlanta would be a good option as well, but the SEC championship get first billing as it should. by the time the game get to charlotte i would hope the ACC has a handle on this game. hoping tampa puts on a good show.

I was not saying if the game is played in Orlando it will sell out....but if the games is played in Orlando or even Tampa those two cities will do a much better job at marketing it as a must see game...and people want to go to Orlando because of the other things there are do around the city...

but you're right smoothie, Charlotte is probably the best city geographically for the ACC championship...it has a better chance to sell out, but I don't believe it is guaranteed unless the football improves in the ACC

my post said orlando will not draw much better than jax. the tourist nature of orlando would not help much IMO. This excerpt from the charlottesville fishwrap shows why charlotte is the best site.

Seven of the 12 ACC cities are within a three-hour drive of Charlotte and another is within 300 miles. Meanwhile, only Florida State is within a three-hour drive of Jacksonville and even Seminole fans will have to drive four hours from Tallahassee to Tampa. Outside of the two Florida schools, the closest drive from any ACC school to Tampa is Georgia Tech at 6 hours, 51 minutes
