After tonights loss to CCU, they now sit at 1-10, their only win being against Radford.

They also have a loss to Radford.



Can some of their losses like a close one tonight have to do with the road trip, or are they just not that good. When we played them it seemed we were more out of sync then them playing well on their runs. They did play CCU close though, down 2 with 2 min to go.

Yeah...I think they are actually 1-0 at home. Given this is their first year at this level and spending almost the whole time on the road, they are doing about what I've expected. I'm sure they'll find a way to win a road game or two.

See I dont know about that. They could very well lose every away game and comeout with 5 or 6 wins. I can see them beating Army at home, and thir other DII games, but they didnt seem to want to schedule too many bottom DI feeders.

Scheduling is not about what you want it is what you can get. They would love to have 25 home games instead but no one wants to or needs to go Presby right now. It was the same when we went division 1 but we had about 11 home games that 1st year. Life on the road was tough for us too but we did win most of the home games. That is just the way it will be for Presby for a year or 2. Longwood is starting to get more home games but they are in a worse situation because at least Presby has a conference which gives them 8 automatic home games.

To be the best you must first lose to the best then start playing them at home so you can try and get lucky and get the game within 30

Their coach told me all the travel was bringing in more than $650K in guarantee money for the athletics department. Seems like it's a smart way to go about things in a transition year. Build up the budgets and get better by the time they can compete for conference championships.

Yeah thats what the Presby board said, over 600k. It makes sense but its a really rough year for them. The money is great and all but I hope for their sake they dont do that next year.

I'm not sure 650k would be worth it....I'm serious when I saw that...in order to compete at this level you need MILLIONS and be willing to lose MILLIONS....putting your team though hell and only bringing in 1/10 of what your budget needs and having to look other recruits in the eyes telling them "the reason we won 1 game this year is b/c we were on the road so much" just doesnt add up for me.


Even if the Basketball program gets to keep it all (which is doubtful but still possible) it wouldnt even cover next year....maybe I have the wrong outlook for what their doing...I just dont see it as a positive thing even with 650k

$650K is relative. For us and most D1 programs, that isn't really all that much money. For a (until recently) D2 program, that's quite a bit more money than they're used to getting.
Also, going from D2 to D1 is like your bank suddenly quintupling your credit limit right before Christmas. Suddenly having the ability to play all these "big-time" schools can be a heady and tempting thing. And if they can get even a few of those schools to give them a return game next year, then they've just brought in the best home schedule in school history. Unfortunately, just like with any credit card, you still have to pay for it.
From the recruiting aspect, they can go out and tell kids that, "Yeah, we play some of the best competition in the country and in some of the best arenas. Sure, we got killed but that's where you come in."

Don't forget too that Presbyterian will have nine built in home games next season with the Big South schedule. To a certain extent, this year's team is the sacrificial lamb for those that will follow. My guess is that this is the one opportunity to bring in a bunch of money with guarantee games, with no conference affiliation, so why not? I can see both sides of this argument, though.

They thought they'd come in and be able to be near the top in the Big South right away. They're a school that thinks it's a birthright to be good in everything. They think that because they're a small, private school with good academic standards that their, uh, stuff doesn't stink.

I think that PC is the Harvard of the South and we should never play any school that does not have our incredibly high academic standards. Newberry is below us and a 3rd rate school with admission criteria that let's anyone in. We have turned them in enough but no one seems to be able to catch them. Even though they won the SAC in '06 and were 9-2 in 07'. Who cares! We were constantly competitive in the SAC but did not win a lot of conference titles. I think we are far better off with the great academic elite of Coastal, Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb and others. Let's face it PC is the gold standard.
